I have always (since an adult) wanted to see a hummer.

Finally this summer, sitting on the porch of my son's "man-cave", a ruby-throated hummer hovered very close to me. Long enough to see the beautiful colors.

For a while, before he came close, I thought I was seeing a very large insect. Instead it was a lovely little bird.

A treasured moment.

I love to sit on my front porch and watch the hummingbirds come to the feeder.  My grandmother before she died had feeders on her porch and she would sit and watch them when she had her morning coffee.

I don't see them often here but I absolutely love them. They are fascinating. I have tried a feeder but the bees wouldn't stay out of it.

Hummingbirds are so cool - I am in a new house so I think I will get a hummingbird feeder.  Such an awesome little bird.  So tiny.  I haven't seen a hummingbird for years.

We do occasionally have woodpeckers.  I will suddenly hear the pecking on the tree and follow the sound to find them.  Really pretty birds.

We always have many hummingbirds.  My husband is diligent about keeping the feeders fresh and full.  They sound like a bunch of wee helicopters whirring past when we walk out on the patio.  I certainly never heard the info about the Praying Mantis being a threat.  Thanks, sjohnson244, for posting the article.

I have 4 hummingbird feeders in my backyard.  It takes time to get them in, wash them up real good, remake the nectar, refill and get them back out.  I do that every 3-4 days as I found out last year that the nectar can go sour and make them sick or kill them.  My hummingbird population has increased in the last year.  Our first year here I only saw one or two but now we're up to 5 or 6.  I love watching them!

I have 3 feeders.  What always gets me is how they will fight, no matter how many feeders I put out.  I rarely see more than one at a time at a feeder.  Yet I watch videos online that have so many hummingbirds feeding at one time.  The ones that come to my feeders seem so territorial.

Oh, I used to love watching the hummingbirds at their feeder on my mother-in-law's front porch. They are so beautiful! I have a regular bird feeder in my back yard, and I really enjoy watching the red cardinals come around to eat. Hummingbirds and cardinals are my two favorite birds!
