I do not do anything special for St Patrick's Day. I am not Irish. Maybe if I were I would do something. Or if I lived in Ireland.

I just bought my corn beef today.  Giant had it on sale for $1:60 a pound.  Got a nice sized roast.  Next week I’ll get the cabbage.

I always tried to make corned beef and cabbage every year in my 34 year marriage because although I liked it - it was definitely one of my husbands very favorite meals.  Since he has passed I really haven't had the heart to make it although I thought about making it this year.

Make it, I am sure you will enjoy making it and the memories it will bring back to you.  I love the St Patrick's day meal!

It was only about 15 yrs ago that I heard that corned beef and cabbage was the meal of the day.  Growing up the only way we celebrated was to wear green.  Even got away from that.  I think it's pretty cool learning about these traditions and that people still do them.

I'm Geramn/English heritage and my hubby is English Welsh. His favorite meat is corned beef. He's rather that than regular beef roast, but it's so hard to find corned beef all year round. It used to be really cheap meat, too, but it's more expensive now. Our local store had it on sale this week for $2.98/lb. but it was limited to 10 lb. with a $25 order. So I made 2 grocery lists. A bonus was that they are celebrating their 50th anniversary  and every day they had $.50 specials. for example, Manwich $.50 a can. Bread today was $.50 a loaf. There were different specials every day for the week.

Anyway, I make New England Boiled Dinner a lot with corned beef which is corned beef, cabbage, carrots, potatoes, and I throw in some onion wedges. So I'll be doing this for St. Pat's day in the crock pot of course.
