my parents never gave me that talk.  I just kinda learned about all of it from my friends and from health classes.  Maybe introduce your child to the notion of the birds and bees at say 9 or 10.  then health class should kick in and teach them the rest.

When my kids and i had a boy and a girl they kinda  asked a question i just gave them a lil bit to get them to talking cause i was not prepared for the talk i found out that they knew more than i was prepared for them to know.  kids talk to each other first i guess

As soon as they ask you, "mommy what is *bleep*?"

lol, that's hilarious! I had the talk with my son at 10 and again at 12. I think you need to keep discussing it as they get older. You can't expect to tell them "use a condom" at 10 and then drop the subject.
There is a great book I used called It's So Amazing by Robie Harris that helps explain everything , and I mean everything.

You know, I was forced to talk to my son before I wanted to because he asked.  We do not watch any explicit movies and he goes to a Christian school, but when I watch NASCAR on the weekend, the *bleep* and Cialis commercials and the Desperate Housewives commercials come on constantly.  Why does anyone feel that these are appropriate for daytime TV programming?  When did talking about erections and women's *bleep* become acceptable subjects for family viewing?  Forget the fact that there are kids in the room, I just get sick of being constantly bombarded with it myself.  I mean really, is there really a man left out there who does not know about *bleep* by now, and that you can ask your doctor for it?

I agree but I guess people expect the television to be on nickelodeon 24/7 if there is a kid in the house.  ::)

Well I hate to say this but my 4 year old learned a little about it from her cousin, the scary thing is that she was told not say anything about it to us. Thank God we tell her to tell us everything especially when someone says "don't say anything to no one". I'm a young mother and no one gave me the "talk" when I grew up, but I tell you I didn't think I had to do a little bit of it at this age for her. So I say the moment they start to question things that they see or here!!

THERE ARE DIFFERENT ASPECTS/LEVELS OF HTE BIRDS AND BEES .

#1.YOU SHOULD TELL THEM ABOUT ANYONE TOUCHING THEM INAPPROPRIATELY AND ASSURE THEM THAT THEY SHOULD TELL YOU ABOUT IT IMMEDIATELY. ASSURE THEM THAT THE PERSON DOING THE TOUCHING IS WRONG AND YOUR CHILD SHOULD NOT BE ASHAMED OR AFRAID TO TELL YOU ABOUT IT. DO THIS AS EARLY AS POSIBLE AND REPEAT THE CONVERSATION/WARNING AT LEAST A COUPLE OF MORE TIMES.

If there very shy or not into the social scene then your good. I'm not a parent but I recommend talking to them about it, when they first start learning it in school which is 5th grade if I believe.

Start as young as they can understand the very basucs like when they see a pregnant woman and ask where babies come from. Just give them the info a kernel at a time and they'll come to you ( my son did) because they know you'll tell them the truth.

i think it depends on the child, but in this day and age they are exposed to this stuff very early...so the idea that you can wait to discuss this topic until they are teens might be pretty risky.... :sad1:

I feel that you give your child the talk as soon as you feel that something is going on. All of my kids have had the talk, and they 13,15,and 16.
