What do you guys think about facebook/myspace? (safe or unsafe)

I think it's safe if you choose it to be. People can't blame the site itself for being unsafe. It's the members themselves.

I have been using facebook for about a year now and I like it. It's nice to stay in touch with friends and family. As long as you set your privacy setting to the tightest and securest setting you are ok. The only problem I have had on the site is that I have gotten a virus from one of the games on it. Some times it is hard to avoid viruses on there. I have Norton antivirus and even that didn't detect it until it was too late. I was able to fix the problem easily with no damage done to my computer. Myspace is very safe too, but on occasion I get a request from a spammer to be their friend. I just block them, and report them as spammers and all is well.

I love Facebook! I can see the potential for it to be unsafe if it is allowed to be, though.  There are a LOT of predators out there-you just have to be careful who you friend and what you download.  Same as any other site on the internet!

I think there safe...the main purpose for both site is to keep in touch with friends and family!!! However, some people meet new people on the sites...i think its the person responsiblity to be safe!

Facebook is totally safe. Just don't accept friend requests from random people and meet up with them in dark alleys. Sounds pretty simple by my book.

Also, keep personal information to a minimum, and use appropriate privacy settings.

I like facebook, great way to keep in touch, and i think its safe. Depending on how you set it up.

I dislike both of those things and avoid them. I do not even give my phone number out

I think it's both safe and unsafe. Depends on how you use it, and if a creeper comes upon you.

I think they're all pretty safe by default.  People just have to be cautious not to post tons of personal information.

It's also important to keep strictly personal pages from being linked to every other public thing you do online.  Use different usernames for public and private sites, don't hand out full names in public, etc.

i think myspace is unsafe because of the virus emails...it shut down and invaded my computer once, never used mypace again....facebook is kind of safe..you have to be wary of wat u post, and who you friend..

Never heard of myspace infecting computers before. I am on both and have not had a problem as of yet. I usually don't stay on them very long though. I have had problems with viruses infecting my machine on Yuwie though. I don't go there unless I'm on a MAC.

I think Facebook is pretty safe to use.   Its up to you to guard your privacy and Facebook has made more security safeguards for you.  You just do not accept total strangers as a friend, just because your family or a friend suggest it.  It is really a good way to keep in touch with family and friends.

I am not sure what to think really. I have not had any problems with either that I am aware of other than on my space I have not been able to put a background on my profile. I put the code in and nothing I put in appears. I contacted them twice and had no response at all. Maybe I can't do it because of a hacker. I don't know.

I myself don't use either just b/c I don't have the time or the want to, to use it.  I think it could be safe if you make it that way.  If you just on go on and tell all then your putting yourself in harms way. I feel that you have to play it safe with everything these days.  So I guess it is safe and its unsafe according to the way they are used.  Need to have good virus protection requardless.
