Where were you born and are you still living there if not why??

Was born in Modesto, California, and I'm living within 60 miles of it.  I left and spent 16 years in Alaska, but had to come back to a warmer climate as the cold irritated my Asthma.  Didn't really want to come back to California, but knew friends and family here.  Relocating in a year or so up to northern Idaho.  Idaho is still a lower cost of living state.  Now that I'm retiring.....need a place where my money goes further.  California's cost of living is off the chart.
