Grossed out...
« on: August 09, 2010, 12:34:08 pm »
So I have a co-worker that is like the masked avenger for cats. Or as I like to call her CCL (crazy cat lady) she does well for the society but collecting all the strays spaying them and letting them free. Well, she just told us that a cat she brought in has scabies (Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. The presence of the mite leads to intense itching in the area of its burrows. The urge to scratch may be especially strong while you're in bed at night). I’m completely grossed out. Hell, I’m pregnant and can’t take much for illnesses, just to think that she has a cat that in her house, for the last two weeks with other cats that go over and around everything. UGH!

If you start to itch really bad--dont wait.......get into the dr asap!  We rescued a dog one time and took her to the vet the next day for a check up and found out she had that.  we got the meds to treat her then i went home and scrubbed my WHOLE house down!!! I washed EVERYTHING!!! It wa tiring but better then getting infested! :-X

Um... that's disgusting.  I'm all about rescuing animals, but the number one should is that they must be healthy!  A quick trip to the vet could have prevented a lot of animals from spreading diseases.  People need to spay and neuter their animals!  It drives me nuts!  Breeders drive me nuts!  The pet population is out of control, and something has to be done about it!

That's nasty!  It's contagious, too, so be careful!  I would rescue animals, too, but it can be very dangerous-what if one of them bites her and it has rabies?  It's not like that's completely uncommon, you know.

Time to call Animal Control or the Health Department. You have to keep yourself and your home clean and safe for your unborn child.

I  know it is not good for you to work around cats if you are pregnant.

Well I am assuming this in her house, not your work, first of all. I am not sure if scabies is contagious from humans to cats. If it is not, I don't think this should be a problem. Prayerfully she is nursing the cat back to health, as far as her taking these cats in, spaying them and setting them free, this is a good think, controlling the pet population, why would that be something to upset. She is doing alot for the community and animal population. She has a good heart.

It can be completely contagious!!!
My room mates and I had caught it years ago...you have to get a special cream and rub EVERYWHERE!!!!!   completely clean your home (they survive on anything for days!)
when they are dieing their reaction is to burrow to safety and it feels like fire ants ALL over your body!!!

symptoms other than the little red bumps... itchy in crevices such as between your fingers...or when hit with not water.... when you wake up with CHAFED skin from itching overnight you have it lol

IT SUX!!!!
UPDATE=====Scabies Free :)
