Walks...you have just become my favorite person of the day.

I agree...the hypocrisy of it makes me queasy.  But then again, I posted this same opinion on the previous thread.
I actually got banned from a CNN site for that opinion this morning.

You sure it wasn't FoxNews masquerading as a CNN site?  LOL

HA! I notice a lot of people on news sites are constantly posting "this will inevitably link to terrorism!". Very few have different opinions-- and when they do, they're of course labelled as crazy liberals. This whole situation is obviously a major risk (for the muslims and the opposers), but is also a greater test to uphold what this countries principles were founded on.

IDK there has been virtually no problems of that nature with religious institutions on the Rezs

I can't speak for all of the over 500 Indigenous nations but as for myself and most native people I know, to start with we don't believe in the concept of owning a piece of the earth. Here is were some people will bring up turf wars from pre-contact. It wasn't about the land per-say, it was about the groceries. Take for an illustrative example if I came to your home, didn't knock etc, opened the door, walked into your kitchen, open a cabinet and started munching on your goodies. You would probably, and most justifiably, have the urge to kick my azz for it. Same thing...

So, Creator owns the earth and we believe he meant or it to be inhabited by all.
Same logic as to why our Ancestors welcomed new comers to start with.

Also, most of us don't spend most of our time meddling in others personal affairs and if someone wants to practice their spirituality, we don't feel we have the right to attempt to deny that.

I do admit to having a personal hang up about fellow natives who have adopted christianity (and there are way too many of them, in my opinion)as I feel that is very disrespectful to the Ancestors and their sacrifices they made to protect and preserve our traditions, however, I realize that that is a personal issue of mine and in no way negates ones right to the lifestyle of their choosing as long as they are not trying to make me extinct, so I keep it to myself and just fume quietly about it.

I really respect Islam.  Next to my own religion, I think Islam is the best religion out there.  The people who practice Islam are truly admirable.  They're so true to they're religion.
I don't see the point of arguing about this.  It's not that big of an issue.  First of all,  we have freedom of religion in this country, not freedom to practice any religion except Islam.  Second, it's 2-3 blocks away!  If they wanted to build a mosque on the doggone sight, then yeah, I would oppose but it's blocks away!  I know some families of people who were killed in attack oppose the mosque being built, but they wouldn't even know about it if the news didn't blow it out of proportion.  Just get over it and let them practice they're religion.

First of all I think it's disrespectful...If the intentions of Rauf and the others who want the mosque built are totally pure then why would they have a problem building it in another location just to respect the victims and their families...

Also, Rauf and his wife have both made many controversial statements regarding the relationship between Americans and muslims and I think this should be investigated further.

Where is the funding coming from? Taxpayer money? We're in debt.

Basically I think there is not near enough information about the background of Rauf and where the money will come from. I also think it's pointless to build it there and stir up so much controversy when it could easily be built in a different location. AND I think Al Qaeda will be laughing their little butts off at us which really irks me inside.

Also I've heard about a lot of other religious groups who have been trying to get permission to build and meet in the same area with only negative results, why is it ok for the muslims but not the others?

There is not one muslim in this world that doesn't know about 9-11, and they knew exactly what they were doing when they decided to build the mosque.  These select few muslims had to have some knowledge of what their plans would cause as far as a "terrorist backlash" from New Yorkers. I really think they just don't care. Its almost like a "religious dare" or something, just to shake things up for no reason at all. There are plenty of other areas to build at.

Not all muslims are terrorists, but they are probably asking for serious trouble from many different directions, deciding to build so close to ground zero. Who knows, maybe they wanted to start trouble, you never know with things like this.

My thoughs are, "Don't start, won't be none!", as in don't give people a reason to start trouble, because trouble makers will flock to the fire to make it worse ~I.E. terrorists, protesters, Religious groups, ect!
