Testing for Radon
« on: September 02, 2010, 12:02:40 pm »
1 in 15 homes (including apartments) have a high level of radon.  Radon is believed to be the leading cause of lung cancer in nonsmokers.  You can’t see it or smell it.  There are kits available at home-improvement stores.  Follow the directions and promptly return it for analysis.  If your levels are high, you’ll need to have a certified radon-mitigation contractor install a piping system to vent the gas out from under your home.  If you’re buying a new home, request that a radon test be part of the inspection.  If yours tests negative, retest every 2 years.
