« on: September 09, 2010, 10:04:57 am »

I recently bought cheap nasty cigar cigarettes to keep me from smoking oh they work but..I sneak in my brand here and there ugh.I quit all three times I was pregnant for nine months,I do not smoke in my car so I do not smoke when I leave house..I am struggling so bad with this and so is my hubby he is a heavier smoker than me so he is doing worse..I have tried suckers, gum and tons of other crap..I am losing it!!I cannot afford to buy expensive stop smoking things for two smokers and no health insurance well that rules out prescriptions..Tried the patch had night terrors...Did the nicotine gum ended up sick as heck and my teeth cannot handle gum grrr..Any advice???

I have been trying too quit too, but is a bit harder bc my husband smokes too. I havent tried any products because I figured I would just switch my addiction from cigarettes to whatever I use to try to quit. I ve been stopping little by little. I havent had a cigarette since tuesday. I think Im doing good. Just keep on trying, the beginning is hard!!!

I think Nicorette came out with some new product that you eat?? It's not gum it's something else. Someone told me that quitting smoking is the hardest thing to do.

instead of trying to replace the nicotine craving,
try to fight it. the craving is a physical and mental
thing, and if the will to quit is strong enough, you
can talk yourself out of it by using your mental &
physical strength against it. like setting small goals...

for example, don't think about the big picture of
quitting - which means you can't smoke a cigarette,
ever. challenge yourself to a percentage of what
you smoke now (if you smoke a pack a day, your
goal could be 10 cigarettes a day. if you only smoke
10, limit yourself to 5)...

this way, it'll almost be like rewarding yourself.
you'll probably enjoy the cigarette more, since you've
been looking forward to it longer  :dontknow:

My friends have had success with Allen Carr's book. It's called The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. The one rule is that you must not stop smoking until you finish the entire book. You'll WANT to quit in the middle of the book, but if you do, it probably won't work.

I'm going throught the EXACT same thing, Butterfly, I have been trying to quit for two months now. The "Stop Smoking" stuff does NOT work. It has really been messing with me too. Whats worse is i can't find a better reason to smoke except "i like to smoke". I am really trying hard on this. it's tough. i'm thinking of trying smoking tea leaves when i want a cig. someone told me it would work.

I made the mistake of trying to quit smoking right before my deployment to Iraq.....that was a tough time when all there is to do is smoke...granted I did quit smoking but had to wait until I got home :)

Could always start our own little Stop Smoking support group. Some times those work. You just keep track from day to day off how much you smoked that day and each day come up with a "simple" reason to quit smoking. If you smoke more than what you said you would you would have to explain why. Just a thought.

It's so hard to quit. I'm thinking about it again...

Best way is to count how many you smoke in a day and slowly work yourself done to none.

A lot of smokers need something in their hand - it's habit.  So try keeping a pen or something like that in your hand when you get cravings, chew gum, keep your mind occupied.  I'm very proud of you for trying to quit!  I know it's difficult.  My mom smoked her entire life and got emphysema when she was in her forties.  She got a lung transplant a few years later, but died at 48.  I was 14.  It sucked.  It still sucks.  Do it for yourself and your family!  Keep me updated.

I quit about 10 years ago. My advice is to just stop. I woke up one day and just decided I was wasting my money, and tired of getting sick all the time. I threw out the pack I had sitting on my dresser and that was it. I've had 2 cigarettes since then, mostly just to see if I wanted to start smoking again, but I didn't want to. I have only gotten sick ONE time since I've quit. It's amazing how much it messes with your immune system.

Basically I think you just have to make up your mind to quit, and then stick to it. You'll save a lot of money, and also feel a lot better!
