Don't believe that....there is no what if, it is just a belief of mine though. You also have to take a look at Jesus's life...I mean did he just claim to be who he was because his mom told him she was a *bleep*?

well we have no real evidence of how his life was. so maybe his abilities and everything else were stretched a little from day one snce it was a "virgin birth".

I have heard and seen some discussion on the definition of "virgin" from back in those times...some claim it meant that she had not had sex, others claim it meant she was a very young girl and had nothing to do with sexual experience.  The thing is, though, I don't believe Jesus was the Messiah...he didn't meet the qualifications lined out in the OT for the Messiah.  Then again, I'm not a Christian.  I'm not sure Mary's "purity" would matter that much in hindsight for the modern Christian, though, because the virgin birth is only a part of the Jesus story...Christianity is more focused on the life Jesus led and the death Jesus died, and whether Mary was a virgin or if everyone tapped that wouldn't change the final outcome of the story.  Now...ask a Catholic the same question...

Hi. To introduce myself I'm a Christian. You stated that you don't believe that Jesus is the Messiah (that's your opinion), but what struck me was that you confirmed your opinion as a fact by referring to the Old Testament in the Bible, saying that he did not meet the qualifications based on scripture in the Old Testament. I know a lot of non-Christians who read the Bilble. If you are one of them, just know that the Bilble is not sliced bread. You cannot take one little part or a single book or even the first half( the OT) to confirm your opinion as fact. About the "Virgin Mary", Mary was virgin meaning that she was never touched sexually by any man before she was pregnant with Jesus. You can refer back to Jewish marriage traditions to confirm that ( how a girl's virginity before marriage was essential and how a girl would never be a wife if she was not a virgin!) Mary was chosen by God to give birth to the Son of Man ( Jesus). Mary was just part of God's plan in sending his son to earth. Mary was otherwise just like any other ordinary woman on earth. Understand it like this: We all have different purposes set by God in life and in society and in this world. That was Mary's purpose.

So...you're new.  Welcome to the forum.  Please, don't make assumptions in your first few days here.  I can quote the OT and the Tanakh and Torah because I am Jewish...and very strong in my faith.  The point of my post was not to knock Christianity...I don't spend time on here knocking the religions of others.  Please don't jump automatically on here on someone's post when you don't know who they are...

Besides that, the OP was asking if it mattered whether Mary was never touched sexually or if she had been around the block a few times.  I don't think it does, or at least it shouldn't in a Christian's eyes...that was what my post was about.

I would say it doesn't really matter...but then again, if Jesus didn't die for the sins of the believers, then there isn't much of a point...so I don't know.  As for the definition...I couldn't say I would blame her if she lied about being a virgin, and I couldn't say whether or not I think virgin meant the same thing then that it does now.

i believe, if im not mistaken, that it meant "never laid with a man". then again, you don't really have to lay to have sex.

I believe that Mary- (if there was even a Mary), was not in fact a virgin.
In my opinion (I know I'm going to be shot for this one) the bible is a fictional story, made up to scare us all. Just like nursery rhymes, and old fairy tales (The boy who cried wolf)

And maybe I am wrong, but I have not seen proof saying otherwise..

There are mention of "Jesus theChrist" in other literature besides the bible so I would think he probably did in fact exist, however, my thoughts on the untouched Mary story is she was got a little loose one night after partaking of some good wine with the fellas and when she wound up preggo she wasnt about to admit spreading it around to hubby. Once Jebus was born she had to keep with the story so as not to tip her hand to dumb *bleep* gullible hubby dude back home. Jebus was raised with this lie which as with any lie becomes true after so many tellings.

The dude sincerely thought he was what he was taught from day one so was forced to lead a miserable existence and end just cuz Mary couldnt keep her thong up.

Further more....Im not much into relations with corpses but why tha hell couldnt it be Mary who still, after 2000 years, loves me instead of hippy dude?
