Axe Commercial--not a fan
« on: September 24, 2010, 01:00:22 pm »
Was it just me, or was that axe commercial just lame?  I'm not conservative by any means, and I enjoy dirty jokes as much as the next person, but there is a time and place.  It just seemed in poor taste to me.  I don't want my 2-year-old and 7-year-old seeing that stuff on TV.  Am I just being too sensitive?

Believe it or not, they actually had that garbage on television for a week or two.  Apparently someone complained because they re shot the commercial without the filth. It's amazing the lengths that some companies will go to in order to sell a product.

I thought it was pretty funny, but I agree I wouldn't want my kids to see it.

I just saw the ad on primetime TBS, during a showing of Forrest Gump.  They edited it a bit, and had no mention of "*bleep*"--they referred to them as "things" or "suckers" in the ad.  It softens the blow to the younger generation.

If they played it on late night, as in Adult Swim or something, I'd be cool with it.  But my 7-year-old boy asked what they were talking about while we were innocently watching the movie.  I told him, because I'll answer anything he has to ask me, but it truly seemed too soon.

Anyways...have a great weekend all!

I thought it was pretty funny, but I have a weird sense of humor. I don't have kids, so I guess it would be pretty hard to explain.  :-

The Axe commerical is a little on the dumb side. I think it could be a better commerical for Axe.

I'm not a fan of this commercial. I would not want my kids seeing it. It's hard to found something on tv today to watch as a family.

I am not conservative either, and I don't have kids, but I honestly find the commercial very distasteful to say the least. I also did see it on TV when it first came out and was surprised!

I seen it on the net and was suprised the other day when i seen it on tv. Some before me said it was cleaned up, the one I seen was talking about dirty *bleep*, and even ballsacks.

I thought it was pretty good; it seemed like an ad perfect for guys. Locker-room humor for something guys would use in a locker-room. And I saw it on TV the first time on Spike, which I think is prob'ly the best channel for it to be on. I don't have kids, but I think if they were too young, it'd prob'ly just go over their head. Maybe the boys would pick up on it, since even at 5 or so, they already know about them (I know they usually are laughing hysterically about the nut-shots they have on America's Funniest Videos). If anything, I don't think the kids would pick up on the sexual nature of some of the jokes; if they were wondering what the ad was a about, I'd just say that they are talking about a guy's privates and leave it at that. It might be worse if I saw the ad on ABC-Family or something like that where it was more apt to be seen by the general population; I think seeing it for Forest Gump was not the best arena for the ad.
