Verizon Refund Offers $90 Million For Invalid Charges

Verizon Refund

Verizon refund offers $90 million for invalid charges. The refund will go out to 15 million Verizon Wireless customers. The refund was made possible after the wireless carrier overcharged its mobile customers.

The mobile wireless company said it would apply credits to current customers and mail refund checks to former customers this month and next for "mistaken past data charges" because "we always want to do the right thing for our customers."

"In most cases, these credits are in the $2 to $6 range; some will receive larger credits or refunds," Verizon said in a statement on its Web site.

"As we reviewed customer accounts, we discovered that over the past several years approximately 15 million customers who did not have data plans were billed for data sessions on their phones that they did not initiate.

"The majority of the data sessions involved minor data exchanges caused by software built into their phones; others involved accessing the web, which should not have incurred charges. We have addressed these issues to avoid unintended data charges in the future."

The company didn't say exactly how the reimbursements would total but $2-$6 per customer would mean a range of $30 million to $90 million.

The announcement coincides with discussions the company had with the FCC about complaints of unauthorized charges. The FCC will likely push Verizon Wireless to pay a penalty for not notifying customers of the three-year problem.

If you were going to get a credit it would have shown up several months ago.

personally it's to bad verizon doesn't refund for lousy service.  my story, i had verizon drove cross country from ohio to california once a week from iowa to nevada no service. can you hear me now no. then i started getting huge bills four and five hundred. what the heck the calls were while i was home.  i called verizon it seems my phone roamed in the livingroom and kitchen of my house.  my bedroom was free.  so my decision was to cancel.  i had to pay the two large bills and then a contract termination fee.  no verizon for me.

I heard on the news a week or 2 ago that Verizon had to refund to a person who didn't answer a text that was a data message to tell them she wasn't interested in the service.  It's illegal in Oregon to make someone answer no to a service they don't want instead of saying yes they do want it.  I hope I explained that right.

They ought to refund all everyones money, this cellphone stuff is highway robbery, real you in with all this technical gadget stuff that everyone is fascinated with, then charge you one third of your monthy rent. It is crazy, no I don't have a cell phone, I did fine without them before, it is just a way for people to call and bug you.

I'll have to watch for my next bill.  For a person like me that is almost always by myself in a vehicle I'm extremely glad to have a cell phone with me for emergencies etc.
