Simple answer, leave your home computer running with a free version of Team Viewer and log on remotely from your laptop. I do it all the time.

@olbuddy - Exactly!  I use Logmein and love it, it's like never leaving home
My husband uses logmein for work!

TeamViewer is great, I use it also...to help out others when I am teaching them how to blog, make videos, splashpages, ect. I have not had any issues with it either

Simple answer, leave your home computer running with a free version of Team Viewer and log on remotely from your laptop. I do it all the time.
What if your power goes out on the computer at home?
If my power goes out, the computer reboots when it comes back on and I have Team Viewer set to load automatically, so it's ready to logon again. If my home computer blows up, then of course it can't be controlled remotely.

Does it work? I have been doing it for years and had very few problems. I started with VNC and tried several others in between, but since I started using Team Viewer I don't even look at others, it's that good.

How it works is you leave it running at home, then you run a client copy on your laptop and input an ID number and password to connect remotely and run your home computer just like you were sitting in front of it. I even have two screens on my home computer and can switch between them on my laptop.

Hi again, oldbuddy!
Whenever my power has gone out, I've always had to restart my computer manually when the power comes back on. What do I need to change so that it will reboot when the power is restored? Also, when you say you run a "client copy" of Team Viewer, does that mean you just install it as well on your laptop or what?

Thanks for all the help you give to folks like me who need a guiding hand!!  :notworthy:

Yes you install it on your home computer in server mode and on your laptop in client mode. To make your computer start automatically (for XP), click My Computer, advanced tab, Startup and Recovery, then click the check box and OK. Then restart your computer to take effect.
