Make sure you're up to date with your virus and spyware defs!
« on: October 19, 2010, 07:55:12 am »
So, I've been clicking around and doing offers for a few days now, and I've seen a pretty terrible trend of some of the sites that are offered have some malicious code on it.

You need to make sure your anti-virus deff files are up to date, or you could potentially be in a hurt locker and paying people like me money to fix your computer.

What I could best reccomend to people here is download firefox webbrowser and use it!
Once you have it, download an add-on called ad-block. It will disable ad's that could potentially harm your machine.

I noticed this especially with the bing video and the toolbar it wanted to install. My computer went absolutely crazy with what it was automatically blocking and what it viewed as potential malicious code and traffic.

Be proactive with your machine, while it's not FusionCash's fault they just post ad's, some of the sites they link to may not have your best interest in mind.

Better to be safe than sorry.

I've never run across any viruses, etc. on here. I don't download anything, though.

I have found a lot of it not to be viruses but spyware which is quite different.  One is very harmful and one is typically not harmful, but annoying and invasive.  I use Firefox and used to use AVG but I changed to Avast because AVG let several viruses through lately.  Both have free versions.

Good reminder. My defenses went crazy when I went to the Bing Toolbar download site too, so I backed off.

My arsenal includes Firefox, AVG, ZoneAlarm, then regular sweeps with CCleaner, Advanced System Care, Spybot S&D, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and Ashampoo Startup Tuner. I've spent countless hours disinfecting friends' computers and am definitely of the opinion that a pound of prevention beats a ton of cure!

Well, I'm one of those in a mess with virus' trojans, worms and whatever on my netbook.  It tells me that one of my problems is the CCleaner download.  One of my other problems seems to be Stopzilla that I got thru Cnet.  It  was $39.95 with a $30 rebate which I most likely won't get if it's part of the problem.  I'd like to fix it myself but that probably won't happen.  I'd say it's a good thing I have 2 computers, but my desktop seems to be on it's last legs too.  I tried to get in to remove those 2 programs but it won't let me do that either. :BangHead: :BangHead: :BangHead:

Linda, my best advice would be that if it say problem with Ccleaner download, then temporarily remove it and any other program giving you problems.  Then download (if you can) Malwarebytes free version.  That really has gotten rid of some nasty viruses for me before.  Then reinstall Cclearner and the other one if you want.  I don't know what that is but I trust Cnet.  I have a friend who is going to show me how to set up a virtual PC.  In other words you use a software to set up your computer so that you have a mirror of your real pc, but the clone runs in a manner that if it gets a virus, you just delete it and it does not effect your actual PC info.  I am hoping to learn more about it this week.

I would also love to learn how to the virtual PC thing. I am not a computer wiz, but I am pretty savvy when it comes to protecting it and updating my programs. I too use Malwarebytes and find it to be a great program that removes malware and some virus's that my Norton misses. Norton tends to miss a lot of malware, which to me is disappointing since I pay quite a bit for Norton each year. I also use CCleaner which I downloaded from Piriform and had no problems with it. Try using Piriform website to download the CCleaner instead of Cnet. Good luck with keeping your computer clean and safe.

Thanks for the suggestions...I'm going to give it another try today.  Yesterday when I tried to get rid of the stuff it wouldn't let me past the security tool that must be an HP thing....It's not something  I put on there.  Of course it wants to charge me $79.95 for that, but in the long run that might be cheap.  I guess you know what I'll be doing this rainy windy afternoon....lol :dontknow: :dontknow:
