Depression(Help Me)
« on: November 21, 2010, 10:35:10 am »
Does anyone know any good ways that someone could deal with depression. NOT getting help from a doctor because it isn't that serve. I just sudenlly start hating my life and I just want to die, then about a hour late I am happy go lucky. I don't under stand what's happenning...is this normal for teens? Does everyone go through this? Is it "I'm just having a bad day"? Or I need to tell my parents and seek help afterall? -___-
Please someones opinions?

I think talking about your feelings is a good step, shows your initiative to "get better".  I think a lot of people have bad days every once in awhile but not to the point where they don't want to live, so your depression may be a little more severe then you think.  If you don't think you can talk to your parents talk to a school/university counselor. Make sure you are getting adequate sleep, eating healthy and not locking yourself up, go out w/friends, take a walk (sunshine helps!) and as always if you need anything everyone here on the forum is here for one another!

You are on the right step that you are seeking people's advice and you are wanting help. This is a great first step. Talking to your parents and telling them how you feel also helps. Talk to someone at school, at church or a therapist are also good resources. There also medications out there that you are try that help and you don't have to stay on them for long. I have gone through depression and I know how bad it can be. One of my teenage sons has gone through it also because of things at school. You also have people here to talk to talk. I wish you all the best will be praying for you. Never give up on yourself.

Talk with someone who will be a good listener and non-judgmental. It's sad to be sad. Good luck to you. God bless.

I just got this following information about Depression doctors: Although there is some controversy over whether therapy, drugs or a combination of both are best for depression, there is really one type of doctor who is qualified to treat depression and other mood disorders using medications: a psychiatrist. A psychologist, also qualified to treat depression, is not a medical doctor and therefore cannot prescribe drugs. A psychologist specializes in talk therapy. If you are uncertain whether you need medications, it is best to begin your treatment under the care of a psychiatrist. If you will also benefit from talk therapy, psychiatrists are generally able to handle this as well, although some may elect to refer you to another therapist.

:)     Sit down with yourself and start thinking: What are my personal problems? Mental, physical or a combination of both? What is your diet...do you get enough nutrients every day? Sometimes depression is caused by lack of certain nutrients in your body. Take some vitamins and minerals supplements. Drink plenty of water every day to flush all your toxins from your body. Maybe that is what is poisoning you. Get plenty of sleep every day. Avoid stressful situations in your life. Find activities you really enjoy in your life and go after them. Listen to some free music in the Internet: YouTube and I-tunes are some of these free websites. No depressing or lack of lights in your room. Make sure you have white or blue lights. Exercise in moderation every day. Even plain walking will make feel better.

So sorry to read that your going through a tough time I understand because I was a teen once, and life is hard for everyone especially teens due to all the growing pains school and peer pressure and having to deal with all the normal teen issues as well as things going on at home can be emotionally stressful.

As for whether or not what your feeling is normal growing pains I can't be certain because I'm not a doctor but it wouldn't hurt to talk to a professional because what you described sounds a bit like some form of clinical depression but as I said I'm not sure, but I think it would be helpful to speak with a councilor it might help you sort your emotions out. I've read a lot about clinical depression and its highs and lows it can be hard to know for sure but its best to talk to someone who is trained in diagnosing it.

Well I hope my advices helped.
:peace:

Thanks all for the advice, and yes I have thought about why I am depressed. It all comes down to the fact that I feel like no one cares about me, and if I was to die right now not a single person on Earth would care at all. I feel lonely inside ... so that's why. I'm just trying to cope with the fact that I am the only person here for myself in this world =(

I've had my share of feeling really sad and depressed but when I get those feelings I think of my family and how sad they would truly feel if god forbid somthing happened to me, and I pray for strength and then I start feeling better agin its also helpful to talk to a loved one or friend to sort it all out, also draw upon inner strength and realize that you are loved even though it sometimes doesn't feel that way everyone is loved by someone. :peace:

Writing helps me through depression. Talking also helps a great deal. If those 2 dont work I get a niacin supplement. It gives you a natural happy feeling unlike depression medications. its a vitamin/mineral and found in everyday foods. some people just dont get enough of them.

Figure out what makes you happy-and when you feel down, try focusing on that....find someone to talk to/don't be afraid to ask for help...make sure you are taking care of yourself physically (ie: exercise, eating well, etc.)

Hi cheyanne15..
Write down your feelings whatever they are.. every day.. bcoz some feelings you will not be able to share with anyone.. write down when you are depressed.. write down when your happy and why do you feel that way honestly from your heart and when ever you are feeling low.. read the things which you wrote when you are happy..

Nothing in this world is worth dying for..
