Words are not inherently bad we give them meaning and decide they are "bad" words. Maybe we should instead ask the question why does society have a need to create "bad" words?

Honestly I think there is a time and place for everything. Swearing serves a purpose. It is a way to show anger and frustration in words rather than with actions or hostility. I do not think it should be used in every conversation and rarely directed at other people but nevertheless I do think it is a part of society used to channel negative emotions in a less physically harmful way.

Who told you swearing was ok?  We all started swearing in order to make ourselves seem older but previous generations grew out of it.  These days, young people seem to think it's acceptable in any situation and it's not.

Swearing helps to get frustration out...but, it's not okay to use in everyday casual conversation like a lot of people seem to do today.

I don't think it's okay, but I do hear it a lot in movies/tv and when people get angry or mad.

Only if there aren't any children around. Children have plenty of time to hear swearing and "mature" stuff. Let kids be kids and enjoy their innocence. It's a gift they'll wish they had later on in life.

Even as an adult, I try not to use swear words (unless I forget) because face it. When we use them, we intend to hurt people with them (whether they're there or not). I try not to use words as weapons. I'm trying to be merciful. And if someone cusses at me, I let it roll off my back because while I know those words are made to insult others, others may not know that. Even if they do... maybe they just need some compassion. :-

We need a lot less anger, bitterness, doubt, and condescendence in the world, and more compassion, mercy, faith, and charity.

Not that swearing is ok,but it can't be stopped now.I agree there is a time a place for it all.But believe it or not swearing is not going anywhere.Okay not okay, wrong or right...some people swear an it makes them feel good, children swear when not suppose to.You can't stop ones feelings on nothing,if one feels the need to swear they will period...I think swearing is a feeling like everything else that goes on with you.

If we know our language better and know how to use words that can express our feeling precisely, we don't need to swear.

Amen!

Would it be fair to say: The smaller the vocabulary, the filthier the vocabulary?  ;D

George Carlin had a pretty large vocab and a potty mouth.

I don't think swearing is okay.  Some people who have the intelligence of a gnat who otherwise can't talk without cussing is really pathetic.  Swearing is not cute, its a fallback when they (people) otherwise don't know how to express themselves.

TV probably, our culture makes us seem as though it is ok to use profanity.
