I'd rather work at mcdonalds then be homeless on the streets, they are giving so many people an chance for employment. This economy is crazy so I think this is a great thing.

I think that it good to hire, but it sounds like a publicity stunt.   Millions of dollars in free advertising.   Are these jobs 40 hrs a week?  Do they come with benefits?  Affordable benefits?  I will be really impressed when I hear that GE or Microsoft is hiring 50 thousand people in the USA.    :dog:

Well if they can hire 50k people and get more business then good for them.

Supposedly, the openings were for full- and part-time restaurant crew and management positions. Since the majority of restaurants are owned by franchisees, McD's themselves do not control wages or benefits but the news said it would be higher than the national minimum wage average. Here is what their site says on benefits - http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/careers/benefits.html

I think it is a good thing that a major company is hiring so many new people.  II hope that it is a sign that things are picking up in the economy.

Screw McDonalds. People don't know what they are getting themselves into working for that place!
Aside from gainful employment, what are they getting themselves into?

Yea I'd like to know too. I worked at Sonic when I was young and fast food is fast food. It may not always be great but it's a job. I know a gal that has worked for Wendy's since we were in high school and 10 years later she has a pretty good position, you have to do the dirty work but if you stick with a chain long enough, you're golden!

Everyone wants to get hired as the company president and not put in any work to get there.  No such thing has been or will ever be the case.  Perhaps if we ever get out of this economic mess, people will again realize that any job is a good job.

This is the same thing I thought when I read it.  Not sure what it's like elsewhere, but the McDonald's and other fast food restaurants in my area are always looking to hire new people.  Which is great, but the whole mass hiring day just seems like PR attention grabber.
