Extreme Couponing
« on: June 26, 2011, 08:02:48 pm »
I watch this show on TLC cable channel.  I see women going crazy collecting coupons.  They add a few coupons for the same item and get that item for free!!! they buy $2000 grocery for only $20.  Can we add the same coupon so many times?  Where in New York can we do it? Which store.  That would really be great and very helpful.

Its not something that can happen overnight.

I would suggest doing a search online for different couponing blogs, such as money saving mom, because they are a good resource for people starting out on couponing.  Buy the Sunday papers.  Places like Target, Rite Aid, and Walgreens allow coupon stacking.  Walmart matches sale prices and they accept in store coupons from other stores.  Kroger allows you to put coupons on your plus card.  Just gather coupons, keep your eyes peeled, and research.

It would be hard to do something like that in a big city, unless you had a pantry or somewhere to store all of the items. Part of the reason it's cheap is because it's in bulk.

Some of it I don't understand.  How are you saving money buy buying more than you can use?  To me, it is not worth the effort.  I'll definitely use coupons, but not to buy 200 of 1 item.

Hi Guys I recently started using coupons and I would not consider my self an extreme couponer but I dont get a lot of things or free or at at least 70% savings. I have learned a lot and now I am getting other members of my family into it as well and gotta say I have never lived such a comfortable life now when I need shampoo I go to my closet instead of worrying if I can afford it like it used to be before.

I would just like to warn you that the people on that show are absolutely obsessed and the majority are major hoarders with problems.  I love saving money and if i could buy $500 worth of food for free I would do it, but it's risky business.  You are going to spend too much time being OCD about your coupons and budget plans, so I would not go extreme if I were you.

I try to use coupons whereever/whenever I can, but some of these people on this show are expending way too much effort for a bunch of stuff that they'll never use. I'm all for saving money however I can, but I think there comes a time when you cross the line between saving money and hoarding.

I rarely use coupons but when I do I love the savings. As for the people on that show I could understand if they were saving all that money but donate some of the food to people who really need it. Especially, since they spent 20 dollars on 2000 dollars worth of stuff.

I saw that same thing on the Nate Berkus show last week about Extreme Couponing. I use coupons every
month and I save a bundle. I may save on average $50.00 off on my bill. but a lot better than $100 added
every month. I give it a

Yep, they are and when I saw the show for the first time about a month ago, I thought then, "I bet stores don't like this show at all and something will change because of it." No, I am not claiming to be a psychic (we already have enough of those on here, lol), I just have seen things over the years that have been affected by 'the world of the magical electronic box'. There were quite a few articles that showed up about this a couple weeks ago. Here's a link to one if anybody is interested:http://tinyurl.com/3ewj2ud

As usual, it is the people who have to get too greedy or have to find some way to cheat the system and it always hurts the ones who want to try something new. I have always used coupons and given friends/family coupons I know they will use and for things they need, but none of us has ever come home with 300 deodorants or 200 tubes of toothpaste..... ;D I did see in one episode I watched that the family shown donated the excess to shelters, soup kitchens, and other places that desperately need things and that's cool. :)

I use coupons especially from other sites I am a member so I get so much money for using thier coupons and I get the benifit from the coupon. But I have only saved a few dollars, or maybe get an item free but to me ever little bit helps as for that tv shw I have never watched it.  I like to use coupons at my local store they give up double if it is below .50 cents and once a year they even triple the coupons.  But what I find myself doing is buying thing I would never buy just because it is a good deal.  For instance  those glade oil candles I rarely use them because certain sence make me have a mirgrain but yet I bought to I either give it to my mother or my sister cuz they can use them.  There is a gentlman that lives near my parents and he is on a really tight budget and he wont go get help when he should, so when I have stuff my family decided they don't like I give it to him because I know he will eat it rather than just throwing it away.  Coupons are great if I can get something for nothing than I will get it weather I use it or not because I know somebody I know will use it.

I've never watched the show.  Do you primarily get your coupons online or through the newspaper?

I watched that show too! My question is: Can a person really save that much money? If so, what websites are they using to get all these coupons? Some stores do not allow double couponing?
