You can shop online but you should be careful about what you do. Don't buy anything from unknown websites, and use gift cards instead of credit/debit cards.

As long as you avoid unknown sites selling shady things, you'll be alright.     Always check that you are shopping on a "https" page.

 Do all the above and emphasis on using pre-paid credit cards as payment or PayPal instead of a debit card or electronic check...  I had to spend a few days last week working with my bank having a couple of payments stopped that were automatically taken out of my checking account without my consent, I had made a payment months earlier to a "reliable, BBB accredited, https site" and then they decided to help themselves to a few more payments a few months later.  I check my bank statements daily and caught this right away.  I called them numerous times and they all had the "best" excuses as to why they could not refund the money.  They even went so far as to tell me that if I reported them to the BBB or to my bank, there was nothing that could be done to get a refund. 
 An aquaintance of mine at the bank was like "oh, really?"  and he got my money refunded back to me because the payment was "pending" for three days due to it being an electronic check payment.  The site was furious, they've been calling me since and demanding that I call them.  It's been a mess, so don't ever give out your banking information to an on-line site no matter how reliable they seem and how convenient it is.  Once there's a problem, it's a mess and alot of time to fix it.

I have shopped on the internet and have never had any trouble.  I mostly use paypal which is very nice to have and use.

i dont have a credit card so when i want to buy something i buy a gift card from the store then just buy with the cg.

I have found that most major shopping sites are pretty safe , always look for a security option such as verisign. I shop on the internet about once a month over the years, and had no problems.

Technically, it's not "safe" to do anything in this world.  But yes, provided you aren't giving out your personal information left and right, shopping online is generally safe.  Paypal is an excellent way to have a buffer between the seller and your bank account.

Safe to shop yes, safe to buy not always but it is your responsibility as the consumer to do your homework. Check for BBB, Paypal, things that you know are legit.
