Amish People
« on: September 24, 2011, 03:36:30 pm »
Do you live near an Amish community?  What do you think about Amish people in general?  They live in this country with their horse and buggies on the roads at 2-12 miles per hour while the speed limit is 45-55mph.  Seems like a risk for everyone.

They are good cooks.  :)  I live near a flea market and they have an Amish market there.  They sell all kinds of stuff, hot food, deli food baked goods.  Yummmy! When I was a kid I used to see them come down to shop at KMart and their buggies would be in the parking lot.  I live close to PA but not that close.   I don't know if they come from there because I don't think there are many Amish where I am even though they come to the flea market it seems like a long way to travel to sell there from PA.  I have never seen the buggies at the flea market unless they hide them somewhere else.

Yes... Amish people eat fairly healthy and the food is pretty good. They come to flea markets here in Nashville, TN too... but they are more modern and drive mororized automobiles.

i think they have as much right to their horse &buggies
as we have to our cars. lol, i wonder if THEY think our
45-55 miles an hour is a risk?

when you turn it around and start comparing, they
probably have the same concerns  :)
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

Their communities were there long before automobiles and 45-55 mph signs.  Perhaps they should make the speed limit 10 mph instead?  Would that be better for you?   ;D

They probably think something's wrong with us, with most of us living beyond our means.  And maybe they're right; look at the state of our economy.

regarding the speed limit issues... turning the situation around and looking at it from their perspective is a good point. they are definitely at risk.

and they are definitely better off in this economy as opposed to lazy  :bootyshake: Americans.

they have a trillion kids per family but they are very low maintenance and they produce income instead of deficit for the family until they are 21.

but shouldn't they be involved in the military operations for this country? it seems that they just live here and refuse to participate... they wouldn't participate even if their lives were threatened.

The Amish cooking is very good here in NJ.  They are very nice people.  We all have to learn to get along with  all cultures in the U.S.

Usually they drive on the side of the road around here, but there have been a few accidents.

I admire them because they live natural.  They dont harm the universe with pollution like we do.  They live simple lives and are very happy and content.  I envy them what they have and how they live.

Like all americans we have a choice to be involved in military operations. we can't force them into it.

they live in world gone by but most are hardworking and are good people even though they have different beliefs than me.

I agree with the military part. From what I've heard (we have a lot of Amish around us), they don't believe in patriotism. As far as producing income instead of deficit, they necessarily have a lot more income than Americans, not because Americans are lazy, but because the Amish don't pay taxes. So that shows you where all our money goes!
