Normally in our area they don't charge a delivery charge so, I normall tip 15%. If it is $40, I would tip $6.00

touchy subject im sure... but i always tip something... even if it did take 45 minutes to get the food. it may have been someone else fault (not the servers) and even if not, the server still took the time to bring the food to you, and knowing how hard it can be to make ends meet on $3-something an hour, or worse yet, for tips only, i still almost always leave something, even if its a dollar. its true some servers get paid full wages.
as far as the delivery charge on orders from pizza places and the like, i have worked in a pizza place before and although i wasnt a driver, i know the drivers did not get any $ from the delivery charge. they got incentives (maybe a free oil change after a year of service or something else totally not worth the mileage and wear on the car in my opinion). and, in my experience, a late delivery was rarely if ever the drivers fault.. it was usually either the retaurants busy, the cooks messed up or mixed up an order, or the weather. i worked as a waitress on several occasions and put up with a lot of rowdy customers, bad tippers, rude people etc. its a lot of work to run back and forth to one table for jelly, ketchup, refills, etc especially when your feet are tired. i have received my tip in a handful of pennies thrown in the drink glass from drunk customers before.  i also once worked as hotel maid for tips only... that didnt last long as i worked nearly a week without pay. its surprising how many ppl dont tip!!

Probably $5 when I get it...hot. At least that will cover one gallon of gas right? lol In reality, I tip about 15 percent. I rarely order out.

My husband is a great tipper. Sometimes he tips 10.00. For me it is usually around 3 to 5 bucks.

On a $40 meal, I would suspect you tip about 10-15% or about $4-6.  Although traditionally when I order pizza it is usually just a flat amount and not a percentage of the food that complicates matters in my head.

I don't often get delivery of any kind. I usually give them a few dollars. In an actual restaurant, I always do 15-20% depending on how things turn out.

For a delivery tip on $40.00, I would tip about $4. Simple rule of thumb, I use to tip for delivieries or is to divide the full amount more or less by 10 and then pay over that much, usually works out.

I have been a server for 20+ yrs. Therefore tipping is very close to my heart. A server only makes $3.70 an hr. The rest of our pay comes from our tips. For good service 18% of bill is fair, for excellent service 20+% is fair. If the service sucks, I don't deserve a tip at all!!

If it is delivery I generally tip about $4 to $7, but if it is at a restaurant I generally tip at least 10 percent.  I worked as a waitress and I know what it is to not be tipped for doing a good job.

I would tip at least $3.00 and if the delivery was fast and I was really hungry, I might go up to $5.00.
