I personally would never pay money to lose weight. It is really all about self-control and making good choices. The information is out there for free. HOWEVER. I do know quite a few people that did not have the discipline/support to lose weight on their own and had success with WW.

Many years ago when I had money I joined weight watchers and lost weight. However, I do believe you can do the same on your own. For me joining did give me the incentive to stick to it because of the peer pressure and having to get on that scale each week at the meeting.

I have not joined weight watchers but I did do a free 7 day trial and I canceled it.  I think the plan will work and the site had a lot of great recipes but I thought it had maybe too much info. and was to time consuming for me with 2 small kids.

I have never joined weight watchers but I have a good friend that did and she says the best part is talking to other people that have lost the weight and how they did it.

I haven't tried them, but I so happened to have purchased a cookbook from them during an offer.
It has some great dishes. " weight watchers New complete cookbook"
"Make the most of every opportunity"

Nah, I prefer to simply go with the balanced diet approach.  Definitely not any fad diets.  The problem, even with things like Weight Watchers, is if you go off that diet you gain the weight right back.

I don't consider Weight Watchers a "fad" diet.  It is one of the most successful and balanced eating plans out there.   That said, I do not work for them.  With any eating plan, if you lose the weight and go back to eating the way you used to eat, you will, of course, start gaining weight.

basically with programs like those you are paying people to do research for you, something you can do if you just check out a book on nutrition from a library for free.

I just started WW and I really like it. I didn't join the program but there is a calculator online, and all you do is type in the calories, fat, and fiber for a serving size of something you're going to eat and it will give you a point value. It's worked great for alot of people I know, and I like that it has really opened my eyes to alot of the processed foods out there and how bad they are!

I think if you pay for the actual membership they give you recipes, support, etc. But you can find how many points foods are and how many points you can have for the day online for free. :)

If I'm not mistaken you will have to join in order to see how many points per day you will be allowed for your size.  With the prior points program it was on a chart.  I've never found anything in writing with the new points plus so that you would know how many you are allowed in a day. :dontknow: :dontknow:

as a Registered Dietitian and a weight watcher member.... I have to say it's not a fad diet
the website was upgraded just this past month and things are good there -- there is a lot of information and can take a while to learn to navigate
they also have POINTS PLUS 2012 now... allowing a bit more flexibility.

The weight watcher philosophy is very simple, balanced/adequate diet with exercise and the "groups" (or online community) is your support and your accountability.  No one wants to walk into a group and have gained weight!  :)  plus the sharing of great ideas, successes, etc.

I strongly suggest trying the 3-month online, you will get the tools and you can buy the points calculator from their site and then you can learn how to calculate your points, etc.  IF you have ever read food labels, weighed foods, etc you can handle this but if you have never been disciplined then maybe the 'online' program won't work from you.

Good Luck!

Yeah I found online without buying the membership where to type in your height, weight, and activity level. It gave me how many points I can have for the next 3 months. I do plan on buying the membership once I have the extra money, but why not start now? :)

I don't think it's a "fad diet." It's all about staying within your point limit, and more nutritious foods will have less points and fill you up more, and it makes you realize that you don't need to waste your points on fast food or whatever. I'm still having a hard time giving up pop though lol. I have reduced how much I drink, so that's a start!

Weight watchers is a good way to lose weight. It's one of the only dieting techniques that does not force you to stress constantly about your diet. It's especially good for people who are picky.
