CAN U GET SSI FOR DEPRESSION AND ANXIETY?
« on: March 31, 2012, 07:40:36 am »
im applying for social security disability for depression,  generalized anxiety, and PTSD   :'(.  i have been in 2 hospitals inpatient for behavioral mental health but i also been in outpatient for substance abuse   :dontknow:  , i have seen a couple of psychologists and psychiatrists in the past and received the same diagnosis. Every place i have been they prescribed medication and as of right now im still receiving mental health services and im currently on medication. i would like to know if there is a possibility if i can qualify for SSI even though i went to a drug treatment prgrm and graduated.  Do they disqualify you for past drug abusee?  i also know u have to prove why u cant work because of your disability but i have not worked in the last 2 years and every other job i had i never can keep for a long period of time because of my mental health issue. any suggestions or advice??? i would appreciate them!!!!!!!!!! thanks

Depends on your state. Indiana has SSI for anxiety HOWEVER anxiety or any other mental disability requires a caregiver. Someone else would have to get your check.

I found an article about this subject, that was written by a practicing Social Security Attorney. I hope this is helpful to you.  Here is the link to the article,  http://www.4socialsecuritydisability.com/Depression_Anxiety_strategies.htm

Sorry to hear what you been through.  I think you should find someone to help you out for filing.  Someone that really know how to deal with paper work on your behalf.  So that they can help you.  Hope you good luck.

I also feel for you and what you are going through.  I deal with depression, anxiety and severe panic attacks.  It can be overwhelming at times.  Unfortunately I would have to recommend a highly referred attorney that specializes in social security disability situations.  I say unfortunately because there are many out there that chose this category just like the ambulance chasers of the personal injury attorney trade.  Maybe your psychologist/psychiatrist has a recommendation of someone reputable.  In any case, a good attorney can ensure you have a case.

The reason I say this, my mother suffered from emphysema and could not work because she couldn't do anything without coughing her lungs out.  A social security disability attorney told her they would help her get benefits since the social security administration kept denying her.  To keep things short...   she dies three years later with the lung disease, and the social security administration said she was still able to work. Her attorney took every dime she could for expenses and left her to suffer.
