Depends what you mean by a lot. If I had millions or something, then there are a few things I would do. First, I'd look at how much I needed for my bills and set enough aside banks so the interest would be enough to cover all that. That way I wouldn't have to work but could do so if I wanted to.
I'd probably give 10K (or whatever the amount you can gift without it being taxed) to help them. Some of my close friends have huge school loans so I'd hope they'd put the money to that.
One things I've considered is possibly putting some in the bank and letting it accumulate interest and using the interest to do good things around. That way it isn't just a one time thing, but something I could do consistently to help. 10K a year might not be a lot, but it could do more good then a one time donation and it would allow me to spread it around.
I'd love to put something together to help people earn a degree. There was a girl at my school that got out of class at nine and had to go to her third job of the day just to pay for everything. I'd love to find people like that and maybe pay off their tuition or something. Charity is an idea, but I'd rather choose who to give the money to. I have some family members who are getting their tuition paid for through the government and yet they don't even care about the degree. They only do it so they keep getting free cash so they don't have to work and can smoke. I'd rather someone who really wants the degree get it for free over someone just doing it for the cash to get cigarettes.
Doing something for the people in my area would be nice too. We had a thing at school once where we helped a family in our area get presents for Christmas. Ours was a mother and son. He wanted a basketball and another toy. Her only request was a bed for her son. I'd love to find people like that and give them something.
The other thing I might do is go to small restaurants and leave like a $50 tip or something. Maybe go to schools and donate to them. One that might be fun would be to come back to sites like this and create an offer that required very little work but gave out like $10 or something.
