Who Home Schools they kids..Do you Like it.
« on: July 07, 2012, 11:17:45 pm »
Last year when I had enough of my 8 yr old getting bullied in school. I decided to home school him. One thing I have noticed about him now is that he dont bite his nails anymore. The second thing I noticed was that his state testing scores have improved a whole lot. This was my first year home schooling him but I think Im going to try it another year and see how it goes. He also plays and have fun more when I take him to the park. He isnt afraid to make friends now. 8)

I pulled my daughter out of public school after 3 months in first grade and homeschooled through high school.  We were involved in the local homeschool group so she had plenty of "social" activities and extracurricular classes.  Her annual testing scores were always around 99%.  She was involved in Karate for sports, achieving her black belt and is now an instructor in her Sensei's school.  During her last 2 years of high school at home, she attended the local community college getting a degree in therapeutic massage by the time she was 17.  Now at age 21 she started her own business, Evolve With Your Body Mobile Massage, and is also an assistant funeral director, planning to go back to college this fall to finish a degree in mortuary science.  She was able to study things she was interested in and in a way that was suitable to the way she learns. She loves the classics so we did primarily a classical curriculum with some unit studies; strong emphasis in reading and writing which were her strong points. My son, who is 13 years older than my daughter, went to public school.  He too owns is own business, a water damage company, so they were both successful, public and private.  Both forms of education have pros and cons, but if I had to choose again, I would absolutely without question homeschool both.

Thank you cupcake for pointing out my spelling mistakes, I am a person who does that with my son. I welcome it to make me better at my mistakes in grammar.

I respect any parent who decides to home school their child.  I think it is a huge commitment.  I considered it when my kids were younger.  Not sure I would have had the patience.  I think homeschooling groups are critical for socialization.

The school has many events and they also have things to do with students. Even so field trips is what Is what I call them where they meet and greet at some event or at a science fair.

I am glad you took it upon your self to take him away from bullying. I know I would have done the same thing.
