Guns aren't the problem.  It always amazes me how people overlook that.  PEOPLE kill people.  It's a tired old cliche but it's true.  How would outlawing guns cut down on anything?  You still have knives.  You still would have very violent people doing very violent things with whatever they could get their hands on.  I mean a cordless drill or saw is a very violent weapon.  You take guns away someone who wants to do something very bad will find a way to do it with whatever they can get there hands on.  Heck anyone saw the first Bourne with Matt Damon?  He kills a guy with a Bic pen!  You know those cheap 20 in a box pieces of crap that don't write worth a dang.  That's right.  A pencil is a lethal wepon if you know how to use it.  So no.  I don't think guns should be illegal and I don't see what good would come of it if it were.

no--I don't own any guns, but that is just because I am cheap and haven't bought any. If guns were not legal in the US, then only the criminals would have them--look what happened in DC when they took away guns--massive crime!!!

Even without guns murder will still happen.  There would just be less fatalities during rampages and less collateral damage.  Two years ago a man with a knife went on a rampage in Japan.  I don't remember if there were any fatalities, but two years before that another rampage with a knife happened in Japan resulting in at least five fatalities.

Are you saying "we" should be illegal--human beings should be illegal? If you mean guns, it is not always bad news with guns--alcohol should be illegal--many people die and kill others by drinking and driving--cigarettes should be illegal, many people die from those and give second hand smoke to children and others.

I think guns and all dangerous weapons should be banned in the states. If nobody can have access to them, the crime and death rate will be lowered. The same goes for illegal drugs and other intoxicants alike.

No, because the "bad guys" are always going to have guns and that's why they want to making them illegal and as the old saying goes "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns" so I think it would be stupid!

We've already tried making alcohol illegal during prohibition... Did that prevent people from drinking? Nope. People just found ways to make their own moonshine or sneak into speakeasies. Since alcohol was illegal, the black market grew and alcohol became a valuable commodity (rarity increases the value of an item, so by relegating alcohol to the black market, it became more difficult to get a hold of and thereby increased its value). Because alcohol became so lucrative, the mob became wealthy and powerful leading to more violent crimes. Crime rates during the 30's skyrocketed, and not just in terms of the illegal possession and selling of alcohol, but other related crimes used by the mob to retain control of this lucrative black market business.

Our current drug laws have also seen an increase in the value of black market drugs, leading to more drug-related violence. The drug laws have helped give gangs wealth and power, and this wealth and power is what is seducing our youth to get involved in gangs and usually drugs as a result. Much of the inner city violence is due to drug -- not in terms of going crazy on ODing on drugs, but rather due to people killing each other to get the drug money, the drugs for selling, etc.

Since these drug and alcohol laws have worked so well in increasing the death rates and criminal activities surrounding them, tell me then how making guns illegal will be any different....

No, guns should not be banned. If guns were banned than the only people that would end up having guns would be the bad people. They would steal and do whatever they want....why....because they know nobody else is going to have a gun to stop them. I think it would be funny if everyone carried a gun.....then when somebody tried to rob someplace, or rape someone they would would get their *bleep* shot. What if everyone had a gun in that movie theater.....he would have been shot before he could even fire......better yet....he would have even tried some stupidity because he would have known he would be shot. I know this would never really happen, but I just went to the extreme. The more people that are allowed to carry guns, the less crime we would have. People would think twice about robbing a place because the chances would be better that more than one person in the store would have a gun and that the robber would get shot trying to commit the crime. Just think about it in any situation. Workplace shooting......person comes and starts shooting....and they get shot. A person is being raped......pull our their gun....shoot the rapist. I don't really care for guns....but I would prefer them in the hands of good people too.....not just the bad people because we all know they will always have guns no matter what.

I believe it is our Constitutional right to own guns if we so choose.  We have several guns and would like to buy a few more.  Times are getting tougher and I'm afraid we may need them to protect our home and families.  The bad guys will always figure out a way to get a gun so banning them would not accomplish anything except taking them away from the very people that are responsible enough to use them in a civil way.
