Why is it so hard to get approved for social security when you really need it :confused1:

I don't know but i do hope it won't be difficult for me.  I just found out I have autoimmune deficiency disease.  I am on 7 different meds and they expect me to be on more in next few months.

They have to screen very carefully to protect against fraud. If you have a genuine need that is well documented it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

So many unemployed people fraudulently-applied for SSDI during the recession, (and this continues through today), that the screening process was backlogged by months, (on top of pre-existing departmental backlogs), that those who legitimately qualify have to wait.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Those that are drawing ssi and don't qulaify but get it any way need to be dumped it is againt the law, what d they care as long as they get it and to heck with those that do really need it. The govt. needs to start clamping down on all the crap going on. from Medicare, medicade, welfer and so on. This freebie stuff has got to stop and people go back to work even if they have to work 2 jobs other people do it.

Getting disability is a long process. When my husband applied for it, it took several months to even get approved for the hospital required visit. He was so sick on the appointment day, that the nurse who examined him said he needed to visit a doctor immediately, he had bronchitis so bad! But he was denied! Our doctor told us that everyone is denied the first time you apply. So we reapplied and finally, after 2 years, he was finally approved. Sometimes I think the gov. wants you to die waiting so they won't have to give you benefits. Maybe they just want you to be gullible enough to pay a lawyer and give away part of your back pay(time you applied until you are approved). We did not pay a lawyer, but it took considerable time filling out forms,ETC. It is was like having a job! You also must reapply each year, if you receive any state aid. We can't receive food stamps because he makes too much money even though I don't work to take care of him since he is on oxygen. We do receive a little help on our prescriptions. Good luck to you. It is a lot of red tape, but what choice do you have!

My father had lymphoma with profound anemia, transfusions often for hemoglobin of 4.  Applied for SS disability and waited and waited and waited - seems like it was close to a year but has been a while so don't remember exactly.  Do remember we received the approval letter 2 months after he passed away.  Too late.
