I've also had both; anxiety attacks and a hysterectomy.  Was it a complete hysterectomy where your ovaries were also surgically removed?  If so, are you on hormone replacement therapy (prescription)?  Keep in mind that you are in transition.  If you gave up your ovaries you're instantly menopausal.

You can use vitamin E or Soy milk for estrogen if you no longer have ovaries.  Black Cohosh is an herb that some menopausal women take; however, my system doesn't like that herb.  You might also need progesterone.  I get my progesterone from Wild Yam.

What situations trigger the anxiety attacks?

If I were you I'd schedule an appointment with your Dr. to discuss your specific situation and learn about your options.  Good luck and take good care of you!

Have a great day!

I've never had a hysterectomy but I've had anxiety attacks too.  They're not fun.  My Dr. put me on Zoloft and that has really helped.  Also try doing relaxation exercises, and regular exercise like walking.  I thinks those things will probably help.  Good Luck.   :peace:

I was diagnosed with panic attacks. It doesn't take much to trigger them either, mine are caused from lack of sleep sometimes, my dr put me on paxil but it doesn't seem to help. Breathing techniques, benzo's, and therapy can help.

I kept my ovaries.  I was just sitting down watching TV and when I went to go sown to sleep I couldn't just felt anxious and could be still and on the dark.  I have been taking a Chamomile Tea and it has helped.

Thank you allfor your replies

I didn't know they could be brought on by having a hysterectomy.  My mom had one and definitely had emotional problems and anxieties.  They threw her hormones out of balance.

For immediate relief try the Bach Flower remedy "Rescue Remedy.  You can also take camomile, in any form.  Calming music, meditation, yoga, or anything that calms you or makes you laugh could be helpful.

In the long run I suggest checking your hormone levels.  My mom and I both suffered from a lack of progesterone.  Having too much estrogen and not enough progesterone can definitely raise your anxiety levels.  I call what I experienced insanity.

Take care.   :peace:

Anxiety attacks are the worst. I have had them since I went into very early menopause and I must so they are very horrible. You never know when one is going to hit. I do know that Xanax helps. I also know that if you are stressed it makes them worse. Trying to think pleasant thoughts and staying busy helps but I don't think there is a cure. I sure wish I could get rid of them for ever it would make my life much better. I feel for you and trust you find something that works.

I suffer from anxiety attacks all the time, actually just had one about half hour ago. I think my anxiety got so severe that I needed medication. However, when it wasn't so severe I would find POSITIVE stress relievers. Such as going on a walk, deep breaths while laying down with your eyes closed, calling up a friend, quick reps of sit ups and push ups. Most of the time for me my anxiety feels like I have wayyyy too much adrenaline and I just end up bugging out. So things that release energy...basically. Sorry, I like to blab on. Hope it helped!

I myself suffer from anxiety attacks. They are certainly no fun. The best thing to do is to immediatley take your mind of it. Try watching some tv, listening to music, searching the internet, even working on word puzzles. Say to yourself "I can fight this" and just remember that you are not alone. It has taken me years to overcome my attacks, and even to this day, I still struggle with some. But I treat each attack as a learning experience, and a way to improve myself when its all said and done. Good luck to you!

I know that when people get them, they say that it is the worst feeling. You need to try and get your mind on something positive and try to walk it off...sometimes going for a long walk or drive can relax you.
