First Birthday Party
« on: December 13, 2012, 05:01:03 pm »
My son is turning one year old very soon! We're having a little birthday party for him, and I need some ideas! I have bubbles and random little party favors, but I need some ideas for activities. It will be mostly adults, but there will be a few younger kids. Thanks!!

I highly suggest that you do not have loud games. Many children that young scare easily. This goes for hired characters/clowns.
Try to keep a lot of 'personal space' around the children. A lot of times they fell overwhelmed when 'boxed in' by adults.
As far as games, 1 year olds are really too young for that. I would not go overboard because he will not remember it.

Happy birthday to your baby!   Hope you have a good time on his special day; just remember to take lots of pictures!  They grow up so fast!

Make hand print ornaments,.. then you (and he) will have his tiny little hand print to see when he is grown...use it for an ornament on your tree or put in a small shadow box on his bedroom wall.  all the kids that come to the party could make their own,
here is the recipe
2 cups of flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
can add food color if you like

mix well into dough, knead then separate into *bleep* that fit in palm of your hand, roll each ball flat ,,,about 1/2 inch thick.  press hand into the dough, deep enough that it keeps shape as dough rises a bit when baked. make sure fingers are spread apart,  put hole in the top for ribbon to hang with, using a pencil before baking on a cookie sheet at 200 for 2-3 hours until hardened.
these can also be painted after they have cooled.
you can etch his name, age, date, etc. into the dough around the hand print or paint name, age , whatever, onto it after baked,

this is fun for little hands to play with the dough too, and it's non-toxic if they put any in their mouth.

Have plenty of balloons for them to throw around. Maybe do a fingerpainting with each childs name in tape-then remove the tape and they have a nice little momento.

I agree with that!

I'd like to add that kids sometimes get over stimulated and end up crying or falling a sleep during the party. Do the important stuff (presents, cake, or whatever means the most to you) at the beginning of the party. So, instead of getting disappointed if they fall asleep, take pictures. I've also let my kids be the lead. It's their party, so I let my birthday kiddo play when they want to. It's so much fun to watch them enjoy themselves instead of expecting to live up to some ideal perfect birthday party.
