Average amount of miles...

If anyone is knowledgeable on tires...this ? is for you.  Once the belts on tires begin to show....I know very dangerous.  Bout' how many miles can they be pushed to before becoming reckless.  My back 2 tires need attention and I want to make sure it's safe to drive them to the mechanic...or possibly get it towed?

Your tires don't sound good at all.  I would get in and get new ones as soon as possible.  Whatever you do don't drive to fast or a tire could blow.  I had that happen to me when I was in my twenties and I was coming home from work.. Luckily I was able to keep the car on the road.

once your tires are showing the belts, that is dangerous. The belts should never show through the rubber. My daughter had that problem about a year ago and she had them replaced after she had a flat tire on one of the good tires. I think someone was looking out for her because she called me to change the tire and I notice one of the tires were showing the belt through the rubber. I loaned her my car so she could get to work the next day, I would not let her drive on that tire. I would suggest you don't either

Just take the tires off and take another car to a shop and have them replaced.

Just take it easy when you drive to the tire shop.  Don't speed for sure, you have already been driving on them when they were dangerous.  Don't get on the freeway, go slowly on surface streets.

I would get those tires changed right away. Definitely do not drive on ice or snow or even wet roads. Best rule of the thumb is to invest in good quality tires at the start of the year and then change them once a year. Don't buy those cheap brand tires because they don't last too long and you'll find yourself spending more money having to get them changed frequently!
