You can’t tell me Anne Hathaway, in a musical no less, was THE best supporting actress of the year.

Isn’t it too soon in Jennifer Lawrence’s career to give her an Oscar?  Especially since she will forever be known for Hunger Games and not for the sleeper-movie Silver Linnings Playbook where she plays a widower entering a dance competition?  I mean who even saw that?

Ok, I get why the Academy denied Ben Affleck the nomination for director.  This year if you nominated him, he had to win.  No question.  They were so dead set on giving Ang Lee the award for “Life of Pi,” which tell me you didn’t see that coming once he was nominated and Ben wasn’t, that they purposely left Ben off the list otherwise there was no way Ang would have won.

While Brave is a beautifully artistic computerized cartoon, I think the past few years the Academy has just been handing out awards to the cartoon that made the most money.

Still would like to see Tim Burton win for Best Animation.  His stop-motion action beats anything Disney’s computers can make.

I will always believe Spirit got robbed from the Academy for Best Animation the year it was nominated.  They gave it to that lousy Jap cartoon which hardly anybody saw instead.  Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was artistically hard to do because it combined 2d (flat hand-drawing) with 3d (computerized) animation.  The reason it is artistically hard is because a lot of times using two different mediums clash (Like the ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast.)  Any given scene in Spirit you can see both 2d and 3d animation at the same time but they blend so well together that while it is noticeable it just works and your eye does not fight to look at one verses the other.  No other American cartoon has made that work so well.

I have to say I did not see Django Unchained taking home as many Oscars as it did.  Honestly I thought it was the long shot movie.

While I don’t entirely disagree with Daniel Day-Lewis winning for Best Actor in Lincoln, can someone tell me when he has ever failed to amaze in a role?

Yes, Anna Karenina definitely should have won for best costume.

Honestly, Huge Jackman was the best Oscar host for me.  He didn’t do the usual stand up comedy.  He sang and danced.  Basically it was a Broadway show in the middle of the Oscars and I loved it.

Are they just short of ideas to do “let’s celebrate music in movies” as an Oscar theme?

I think what the Academy considers “surprises” are really hand outs to the pass-overs the year before.  They didn’t want any this year so that’s why no Ben Affleck for best director.  Otherwise whatever crappy movie he does next the Academy would have to give it to him.  Like the year they gave best actor to Kevin Spacey and passed over Denzel Washington for Malcolm X.  The following year they had to give Denzel the award which was for the movie Training Day to which they had to pass over Will Smith for Hurricane.  It’s much easier to just deny a nomination rather than pass over them then have to do a sympathy hand out later on.

Really, Amour in the best picture category?  No question it should have won best foreign but after the Artist won last year they thought another French Film would win?
