My mother is 69 and had worked 2 full time jobs and 1 other job cleaning one day a week. She finally "retired" from one of her fulltime jobs in December thank goodness. She is now down to just one fulltime job and her cleaning job. She is a single lady with a home  thatis not paid for yet and says she "has" to work. I just think she is a workaholic and spendaholic.  :angry7: SHe will work herself to death. :'(

How many are working a job after retirement.  Is it for fun or out of necessity?

Funny you should ask.  I have just recently taken a part-time job mainly to fill the time and have something else to do but of course, a little pocket money doesn't hurt either!!!! :)

After 34 years with the same organization, I retired early at age 57.  Although I liked my job, I felt I had run out of steam and someone else might have more to offer. It was perfect timing because my mother needed additional care then.  Now I work part-time at the same agency, but I'm not in charge....praise God.  I enjoy it.

I retired almost 3 years ago.  I am so thankful with my social security and pension and 1040k I don't have to work.  I took a early retirement but I realize there are many people who cannot make ends meet if they just get social security and must work way past the retirement age.

I retired at 44 and don't regret it for a minute... I chose time over money and love it...

I retired from my full-time job 3 years ago.  I was also working a part-time job a few nights a week.  I kept the part-time job so I would have extra money to do things that I wanted to do and also to get me out of the house a few nights a week.

sonic in my town has hired a 77 year old woman as a carhop.  she can barely walk  i feel so bad for her  she has had to go back to work and sonic was the only one who would hire her she is to old for that kind of work

then yesterday i went out of town to walmarts and there sat in a wheel chair a one legged man in his late 60s working at wal marts

last month i went again to a different walmart store an there was a elderly lady who could barely walk could not pick up anything that she dropped.  she said that she had to work she had no one to help her

To me this is wrong the three people working are not really capable. in my opinion they need to be given enough money to live on they have earned it.. and yes i know it comes out of our pockets but i just think what will happen to us if we get at that point in our lives ....

This is in response to Old Buddy -- you are right the interent earning potential available today is a Huge factor and may be the only saving grace for me to be able to live a high quality life for my future as I approach the age of 30.  Though many of my would be referrals are reluctant to get going on the internet, and those that do lack the savy and motivation to do very well so far.

I live in Wisconsin and don't want to sound ungrateful, but so many companies still act like $20 an hour is a great wage when really double that, $40 an hour would be more of a really comfortable good wage.

I really need to explore this internet making income more and get tons of referrals -- I really dont ever want to rely on just one source of income again since I have had wages and benefits cut and been laid off before in the past.

I think people get jobs after retirement because they get bored.  Also, those jobs aren't usually very stressful or serious.

I can’t speak for those who already hit the retirement age, but for myself I would most likely work past the retirement age out of necessity to make ends meet. Most senior citizens can only work as much as they are physically able to.
