There are usually other symptoms that precede the actual headache itself.  Are you one of those people who KNOW you're getting a migraine because of a symptom like your peripheral vision is being cutoff or your eyesight begins to appear as though you're looking through a kaleidoscope?  If so, at THAT point in the migraine (BEFORE the actual headache appears) you should take something like Tylenol or Excedrin Migraine to cut off the headache altogether.

If you're in the midst of the migraine headache, the best thing I can say is to put an ice pack at the back of your neck, and try to relax in subdued lighting.  Many people who get migraines are affected by bright light.

There are also prescription medications that help with migraines but, of course, don't come cheap.  The one they had my daughter on (forget the name of it) consisted of two pills.  One pill to be taken BEFORE the actual headache, and the other to be taken 12 hours later.

Good luck to you.

well I mostly take migraine meds and wrap a bandana wet with rubbing alcohol on my head and turn off the lights.

I don't get them, but my sister does.  The doctor gave her meds, she goes into her bedroom, closes the drapes and makes the room as dark as possible, puts cold compress on her head.  Good luck!

I have these too and wish I knew a way to help, but they just have to run their course. Take meds as soon as you feel one coming on, then go to a quiet, dim environment. You do not want to strain your eyes.

A cool cloth over your head can help too.

Caffiene can help for some people.

I usually have between 9 to 12 a month.  The only thing that helps is the prescription meds. I try to take it as soon as I feel it coming on otherwise I might have to take a second dose. Quiet and dark helps the medicine work faster. Nothing else has ever worked for me.  The best thing is if you can identify what triggers the migraine and learn to avoid them. Easier to do if it is food. Mine are usually triggered by hormones so I'm hoping menopause will help me.

I have had migraines for years, but they are not as bad now as
Some years ago. I had to give up chocolate. That helped a great deal, but
I also take medication when needed because some things
I cannot control like change in the weather and other things in life we deal with.

Allergins tend to get more intense with the seasons.  People have food allergies and don't know it.  This can bring on migraine headaches.  The processed food we eat have many additives in it.  Do some research on be aware of the foods you are eating.  As I get on in my years I figured out the foods that I am allergic to.  My sister in law could not drink diet soda or food with MSG in it.

I've gone thru cycles of having migraines all my life; luckily enough I haven't had a bad one since I retired from my very stressful job.  I take medication every night before I go to bed to keep one from coming on and that works fairly well most of the time.  My Mother was plagued with migraines too and she remembered having them when she was just a little girl.  Mine, thankfully didn't start till after I was grown.  I can't imagine being a child and have a severe migraine although I know there are plenty of children that do.

I've found Excedrin works the best. I usually can tell when one is coming, so if I take it early enough I can prevent them.

I get them too. The pain can be so bad it makes me throw up, which only makes it worse. I take one of everything (tylenol, advil, aspirin), drink some caffeine, and find a quiet dark room.  Since my vision goes with them, i have to stay put.

I hope you get some relief.
