Wow, I love this question.  If it was a really really big powerball, I would split it with my sisters and my husband's sister when we go to collect. Then, I would pay off all my bills.  Then, I would take a look at the community I live in.  My husband says he would start an auto restoration company and hire local talent - older and younger otherwise struggling individuals.  Then he would sell the restored cars at Barret Jackson or some other auction and set up 401K plans for all the guys who work for him.  I would start a quilt shop and staff it with the little old ladies in the county so they could supplement their sorry and non existant retirement incomes.  I would teach classes just to keep my hand in.  Then, when these were up and running, we would travel again. Oh, and I would fix the teeth of everyone I know.

I've said this before about other things, but it doesn't hurt repeating it.  First I'd buy a few extra things I've been holding off on buying due to limited income.  Then I'd help some friends and family pay off their bills.  I'd also determine how much I could gift to them that they wouldn't have to pay taxes on.  I'd set some money aside in an account to earn interest and the interest earned on that account would be donated to charity.  The idea being that it wouldn't be one lump sum of money to donate but rather a continuous stream of money I could donate.  The rest would be split up among different credit unions in increments that were under the insured amount the FDIC will reimburse you if something were to happen to that bank.

I don't want to get the idea into my head since it won't happen
but I've always wanted to travel
oh the places I could visit with all of that money.

I would like to argue that sometimes thinking about something can cause it to happen to you.  Obviously just hoping to win the powerball won't cause you to win it if you don't buy a ticket.  However, if you put some thought and energy into things, generally something comes out of it.  I've known friend who wanted a job, so they listed the specific thing they wanted from that job and, while it took them changing their degree, they ended up in a job that makes them happy and allows them to help others at the same time instead of being stuck in their previous job that frustrated them.

Pay off my student loans would be step #1, as they're the only huge amount of debt I have. However, my fiance and I only have one car and don't own a house, so a second car and the house would come next! Then of course paying fro our wedding  :D

The rest of it would be put away and kept as safe as humanly possible! Maybe some investments, but overall, I really don't trust investments.

I am waiting for this to happen for ever since it started. You must also understand the Math on the Jackpot for example if you take the cash payout (and I will use round numbers for the purpose of simplicity) Here we go lets just say the Jackpot is a 100 Million and you take the CASH (NOT the yearly payout OK) You will get around 50 Million as a one Time Payout, sounds good you think, OK then you have to send approximately 30% to 40% to Uncle Obama (Oh I am sorry I meant to say "Uncle Sam" in DC) then depending what State you live in you may have to pay 15% to 25% to them as well. So lets see where we at now $ 50 Million-40% leaves you with $ 30 Million-20% for the State leaves you with 24 Million, now that is still a great chunk of Money, there is only one more thing that you have to do and that is to "HIDE" from all of the Relatives that you never heard of or seen before in your life!!!  ;D

Now after you done all of the above you can start planning. For me I would first take care of mine and my immediate Families Needs and the rest would go to Trusts and Charities.  That's all Folks.

P.S. If you want to spend some time you can always Google how the Life's have changed one way or the other for past Winners.  8)

I would try to help family with their debts and then buy myself a nice house and invest the money wisely so that I could live off of it.

I would pay off my bills, make sure first and than take care of family members. Than a house at the beach would be nice.

Of course the odds are not in my favor but it costs nothing to dream.
