Extra for TV Show/Movie?
« on: May 01, 2013, 04:11:11 pm »
Wondering how many others out there have been an extra for a TV show or movie? Paid or Unpaid.

I was an extra in the movie "Joyful Noise" that starred Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah. This was unpaid and it was towards the end of the movie with their big singing part. It was very interesting to watch Hollywood in action.

I was also an extra in the very last episode that will air May 16th for "The Vampire Diaries." The episode is called "Graduation". Won't give to many details since it hasn't aired yet. But this was a paid part. Again very neat to be a part of.

Though I did not meet any of the stars but did see them up close.  ;)

I was in the bridge scene of the Mothman Prophecies as an unpaid extra. As Wikipedia points out "the Point Pleasant scenes were shot in Kittanning, Pennsylvania."

Joked around a bit with Richard Gere, it was fun.

I would love to be an extra, usually good paid but long hours.

I have been an extra in quite a few things.  When they need people to fill up baseball field, football stadiums big crowds at events they usually only do box lunches.  But it is fun to hang out and watch the work.  I have a friend who does commercials, so we are in crowd scenes lots for those.  Lately I have been getting  more stuff like sitting in the teacher's lounge as a teacher on GLEE. A body in the er on  Grey's Anatomy, NCIS, NCIS LA.  A bank teller who had to be terrified when robbers came in.   I have several nieces and nephews who I have been the chaperone/adult/companion for, for commercials.  If they are national and they are featured it is $16,000.00, plus bonuses if they decide to run the commercials after initial time frames. It can be very lucrative.  But out of all the people who are registered to do the work only a very small percentage actual make a living at it.  But it is fun to do, just remember to take something to do during scenes.

My granddaughter with her extra in a movie in Portland Oregon I have never been one myself but she said it was boring and lot of staying around and doing nothing and she would not do it again.
