I have had a regular desktop, but have customized one and it is being delivered today, it has wlan, not sure if these means no Ethernet anymore, and if I can hook it to my cable modem. a little concerned if I did the right thing.

It depends on whether or not your modem has wireless capabilities. If it doesn't, you will need a wireless router to connect to the modem.

Someone told me to buy the new Super MagicJack. Plug it into a wall electric outlet and get phone service and In ternet access.

Just because your new computer is wireless doesn't mean it doesn't have a wired connection too. Also if you get a wireless router, it will have wired as well to hook to your modem and still use wireless for your computer.

Yes, if its just a cable modem you can go hard wire. If you got a wireless router, you can still use your desktop wireless.

I agree that your computer should now have both wired and wireless capabilities, esp. since you stated that this is a desktop. If it were a laptop or a netbook, then it may only have wireless capabilities only. But even laptops usually have both. It's mainly the form factor that would dictate whether it would have an Ethernet port for a wired connection. So very thin units like netbooks or tablets may only have a wireless connection while larger units like desktops and laptops have both available for use.

By the way, it's easy enough to tell when it gets here. Just look for a plugin on the back that looks like an oversized telephone jack.

I am pretty sure you will have a cable connection on the new tower as well as the wireless capability. That is pretty much standard. You will need a wireless router if you want to connect to the 'net' that way. Personally I think that a wired connection (desk top) is not as problematic as my wireless one that I use with my laptop.
