My husband and I have two different opinions about money. My doesn't care to save money. He has even told me at one time that he doesn't believe in it. I, on the other hand, have always saved money and my loose change. I even started saving cans about a year ago after I lost my job. Being frugal isn't easy, but it pays off. My husband knows I am saving money, but he doesn't know how much. I hate not telling him, but if he knew he would want to spend the money on fast food, going out, and technological toys. I want to save for a second car, emergencies, and hopefully our retirement.

I am learning to become frugal. IT is tough.  I wish that I had learned this at an early age. Maybe I would not be struggling so hard now.  I taught my children how to be frugal . ONe has learned his lesson. The other I am hoping it sinks in one day.   The youngest one loves to shope sales when he gets his birthday money or saves up for something. I think he will be the best one for learning how to save.

For me the best way is to grow a really good garden and learn how to can - you can really set yourself nicely for the winter and save lots of money!

I've been wanting to do this but we rent a crappy trailer in a crappy trailer park. :(

If saving money is frugal then that is me, I make my own laundry soap, grow a garden can, will shop at certain thrift stores, love a bargen when you can buy something nice with the price tag still on it. We cut wood for the fireplace instead of turning up the gas, cut hubby's hair. And it goes on. But this day and age you have got to cut corners. Oh yea i go to a food distribution trucking co. and they have a farmers market on sat. I have been buying huge avacados for 60 cents and freezing them oh they will takse good this winter.  We also buy a whole lot of other vegs. and i do freeze someof them too.

Um, I think it can make a lot of difference if one person in the relationship is frugal. But yes, an agreement should be reached when it comes to the big things.
"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

I have to watch every penny and my husband just doesn't get it. I have always been the one who had to make sure the bills were paid and everything was taken care of, I don't know how he will live if I go first!

I don't know how shop without saving money...the trick w/ coupons though is to not let them lead your purchase choices...

If you start adult life with limiting your spending, saving a little, and not try to "have it all" in the beginning, it will pay off in the long run.  Getting into the habit of buying on credit is a trap that will cost a person or family dearly.  A little sacrifice early in life not only teaches self-discipline but pays off in long-term financial rewards.

I guess I've always been frugal without knowing it.I had a friend who bought a Coach purse for 400.00.It never dawned on me to pay that much for one purse. Even the box it came in was amazing the purse was ok but the box wow.

You have to be  frugal  now days.  A penny saved  is a penny earned.

Maybe I misunderstood but if two people can't be on the same page then I think it is that much more important for one of them to be frugal.

I can see a person being frugal, but there are times when they are just cheapskates.   My husband dresses well; he got his clothes through other people, as did I, but he asks for things and he will not help pay for.  He asked for a Dual Saw (he jumped at the price of $9.95) and I ordered it for him.  I was finally hit with a price tag of $246 and it eventually got paid off.  I currently am paying off Cuisinart cookware that he suggested we needed.  I ordered it and he gives me nothing on it, so I am paying off the $122.98 charge.  My husband, on some things, have expensive tastes.  He loves Stacy Adams shoes and decided that he wants a suit for Christmas that costs $79.  He thinks I am going to forgo paying my bills to give him that much; I can't do that.  Since he is getting me my foot tub that I want for Christmas, I will save the $80 to give to him to buy that suit.  He can afford to pay the taxes on it; that is my limit. :male: :female: :bad:
