Restaurant Annoyance
« on: November 18, 2013, 06:32:44 am »
What are the greatest things that annoy you when your at a restaurant?

For me, it's the following:

1.  People lingering at the soda machine at fast food places
2.  The waitress being slow with refills at sit down places
3.  People who are messy or make noises when eating

I think I can top everyone about this matter.  I was at a restaurant with my new boyfriend, it was a romantic meal and we were both looking forward to a 3 course dinner with wine and desert. Our appetizer came, which took way too long but as the conversation was good, we didn't say anything. We enjoyed our wine. An hour later, with no main course in sight, my boyfriend called a waiter over and suggested they may wish to hurry up and bring us our entree. There had been some couples who had arrived after us and had already eaten and left. The next thing we new is that our bill arrived, for the whole entire meal! We were shocked and went straight to the kitchen. The waiter told them we wouldn't pay our bill but we said, we didn't even get our entreee but were charged for it. In the end, the boss said he was sorry for the mix up and we did not need to pay for anything. Then we got fries on the way home!

I would have to say people reaching over you to get what they want when you are trying to get your condiments on your food. We have people do this to us all the time when we get a hotdog from Sams. They reach over as we are putting the ketchup etc and then don't even say excuse me. Another thing that bothers me and this is on a more personal level because it is my own nephews who do it:  but getting up from their chairs and walking over to others at the table or hitting someone at the near by table, also climbing over their other siblings to get to someone else at the table and then spilling food or drinks. :-X

My biggest annoyance at a sit down restaurants "People who can't control their kids. NOthing more annoying than a child who can't sit down and not make a bunch of noise , run around the tables or crawl around on the floor. Then there are the ones who continue to WHINE and CRY! I think they are the most annoying.

I think the noise factor is my greatest annoyance.  When I do a sit-down dinner at a restaurant, I consider good conversation as part of the dining experience.  If the restaurant is so noisy that conversation is difficult, I feel cheated out of enjoying the meal to the fullest (no pun intended) extent.  I purposefully avoid restaurants with a reputation for a loud or bar-type atmosphere but am often surprised at the noise in upscale establishments.

For me, it's people who are rude to the waiters/waitresses. I used to work at an ice cream shop and I relied on tips to make at least minimum wage. I know that these workers rely on tips and I think it is exceptionally rude for customers to not tip at least 10%, I usually tip at least 20% just because I know how these workers need this money. I rarely go out to eat however.

For me, it has to be children.  It used to be when you went to a restaurant as a child, you were on your best behaviour or you were waiting in the car while everyone else enjoyed their meal.  I understand that children aren't always the quietest and that you cannot banish them to the car anymore, but hey, you can make your kids sit at the table with you or if you can't then you and the whole family should get up and leave. Okay, that's my number one pp,
next, servers who don't refill my coffee
and third, a less than clean enviroment.  BUt, with #3, if it is I just don't eat there.

I hate it when people talk so loud on there phones while you are trying to have a conversation with the people you are with.  Also when the waitress doesn't fill my coffee when I need them to, (crap they charge almost the same amount as soda so they should refill the coffee like they do the soda)

What I really don't like about buffets, is that these restaurants sometimes cram the tables so close together that you can't easily leave your table for fear of bumping into someone in the chair behind you. This doesn't seem to happen when there's a fixed menu, just at buffet places. Strange. Also, I can't bear people that let their kids loose on the buffet. I have two kids of my own, 7 & 9 and I too let  my kids go and get themselves some food, but I don't allow them to use their fingers, or to put food back if they change their minds or got too much. And I certainly don't let them put biscuit crumbs in the jelly babies. Come on parents! Don't let everybody down!

  • Dirty menus where I can see food stains and fingerprint smudges!
  • Being seated at a dirty table
  • Dirty bathroom that looks like it hasn't been clean for a few months! :confused1:

I'd have to say my biggest annoyance is with waitresses that are too busy talking to wait
on me. Usually I will leave and go somewhere that is more interested in my business. Luckily this doesn't hppen all of the time.

My number one annoyance at a restaurant would have to be bad food.
