Our garden last year was not good due to the very hot and no rain weather. But we are still try again this year.

I have always had a garden but last year wasn't good. Before you plant be sure to turn over the ground and fertilize it with potato skins, egg shells, the parts of tomatoes that you don't eat, and other fruits and veggies that you usually throw away. It helps with the natural growth of your garden. always either plant seeds a month before planting or buy your plants whichever you prefer. What I do because I have a bad back is put black plastic down after it has fertilized for at least a month and pin it to the ground so I don't have to weed. and when I plant I make just enough of a hole for the plant. space your plants at least a foot apart for tomatoes, eggplant, green peppers. as far as cucumbers build a section with plastic fence with two posts to hold it and fasten it so the cucumbers will climb no need to space your plants more than 9 inches apart. as far as squash it travels so pick out a section about 3 square feet which is as good if you plant pumpkin at the end of summer for the fall. I hope this helps you. Oh yes when you plant your tomato plants take the leaves off the bottom and plant it so only the top shows about 5 inches. your plant will be short but you will have many tomatoes. if you have squirrels fence your garden in because they will steal your veggies.

i think you can surely do at least one kind of vegetable or fruit or spice... I think tomatoes could be fairly easy

It is going to be limited, no new plants, just what I already got, because of the drought here.

Physically it would be hard for me to garden as much as I would like to and lol don't really have a green thumb however with that said - if and when I get the $ to rebuild my dilapidated deck I would like to try and do some vegetable growing in big pots.  We shall see what the future holds  :rainbow:

I am so ready for a garden. I don't plant as much as i use too, but do love having some fresh veggiesthat i can just go out and pick.  My sister-in-law has a couple of big greenhouses and she grow to sell at the farmers market and when she does not sell all of them i bring some home to can like the tomatoes and cucumbers for relish. So all i have to buy are the lids and sugar and spices. I get off cheap.

First off, fruits take years.  Even strawberries take a couple of years because the first year you plant them they don't bear fruit.  I do usually do a garden.  It is a lot of work especially if it is a dry year and you have to water your plants yourself.  When you buy the plants and stuff to keep the bugs off and fertilizer and all that I am not sure you save that much money.  But you know where the food has been and what it was exposed to.  And you never know what will happen with our economy and all.  And lastly, a lot of veggies come from other countries.  Just look at the bad stuff that has happened with the bagged lettuce.  And that usually comes from another country.

I have a big garden and its a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.  But this time of year I am totally chomping at the bit to get out there and grow something.  Living in the upper Midwest, gardening doesn't start until May.

If you keep your garden at a manageable size, you will get much joy and reward from it.
