how do people live with out air conditions

When my ac broke down last month I closed all the blinds and turned on the ceiling fans and it helped.

Oh man - I feel for you.  It can be rough and uncomfortable without air conditioning.  I think it all depends on the individual...and there health circumstances.  I know people that keep there house warm because they are on blood thinners and they are always cold... others with asthma who prefer air conditioning all the time so they can breathe.  Me - I'm in the middle.  I have asthma/allergies so if I can keep the air filtered without freezing I'm happy - after all I'm on blood thinners too.

I have been trying to run my AC less this summer than normal ... luckily it hasn't been a very hot summer.  As long as it stays in the low 80s I'm good with the fans in the windows.

It was a long cold winter and the heater beat up my electrical bill

I know a lot of people who go without air conditioners, now when I live in California just a few miles from the beach which was beautiful and I do miss that  but we never had to use an air conditioner but her in Southern Missouri I can't live without one the humidity would kill me with my breathing problems.

my ac unit died today and it is hotter then heck in my house right now i got 3 fans going waiting on the guy to get here sure hope it can be fixed tonight

Here in Texas it is a neccessity! I grew up without it, but I could not survive without it today. I am too old for that now. The heat is harder on you when you are older.

I have central air conditioning, but I rarely turn it on because I have vaulted ceilings & a two story house & the bill for a month use would be over $500.   I use fans though, ceiling fans & stationary fans that are positioned to circulate the air. I do turn it on if it gets too hot.

Especially at night time it is stressful

  I really  do not know how people live with out air conditions! all I knows is that could not and would not be able to live without my AC

I feel your pain.  I grew up without air conditioning but am so conditioned to it now, I would be extremely uncomfortable without it.

 We always had central when i was growing up and in place my hubby and i have lived has had air conditioning-- i couldn't live without it-- i don't tolerate heat and humidity real well, and i also have asthma so A/C is a must. i'd go nuts without it

A big part of it is where you live.
When I lived in San Diego, we could leave our windows open at night (screens shut of course) and then shut up the house in the morning and close the curtains to keep the sunlight out, and be fine for most of the day.
Now I live in Oklahoma, and I wouldn't do well without A/C!

Didn't get an AC in my apartment until this summer
Had to do the following: Had the fan on at the highest volume
Left the windows open for fresh air
Stocked the fridge with ice and ice cream
Dress in loose clothing that would keep me cool

nowadays we all get spoil, we have air condition at summer and heater at winter time.  I hope you'll AC got fix
