I see nothing wrong with giving gift cards.  I love getting them, especially those for restaurants.

I do give gift cards to family members because A couple of them are very hard to buy for. I try and make it a gift card they will use and enjoy. My nices and nephews are teenagers and cash works best for them.  The gift I give to someone is something I want them to enjoy and use whether it is an actual gift or gift card card, it really doesnt matter to me.

I don't think it is wrong.  It is more acceptable nowadays.  I like to save gift cards I work for on surveys, etc., and give them away.

Okay, first off, Cigarettes are not drugs and neither is beer.  And Walmart does not sell liquor.  They (some stores) sell beer.  Huge difference.  And just because you give them a gift card for Walmart does not mean they will buy cigarettes or beer with the gift card.  And as far as that goes most stores you can trade the gift card in for cash so they can take the Target gift card back to Target and get cash and take that cash to Walmart and buy a pack of cigarettes and a case of beer so you still loose.

I am becoming more of a gift card person.  I can earn gift card from certain sites that frequent. That mean I work to earn the gift.  Since I am not working outside of the house, I feel that I am contributing.

I love getting gift cards.  It's a lot of fun figuring out what to get. 

We don't have a Target in my county so their gift cards wouldn't work very well for me. 

My Walmart does sell alcohol, including liquor. 

Alcohol and nicotine are drugs, so's caffeine. 

People have free will so if they want to indulge in "legal drugs" they will whether you give them a gift card for it or not.  You cannot and should not control other people.  Set a good example and let them live their own lives.

I think it depends on the person.  Some people are easy to shop for because they like certain clothes, collect certain items - so finding a gift is relatively easy.  For others, it's a challenge.  For those who are hard to shop for, if you know they like shopping certain stored (Target, Home Depot, Walmart) or eating out at certain restaurants, then gift cards are very appropriate for those individuals.

My only advice, is if you are buying gift cards, consider signing up at Raise (dot.com) and buy your gift cards there.  First, they sell several gift cards at a discounted price so you can get more bang for your buck.  And second, Raise is on the FusionCash Shopping Mall, so you'll get a little extra $$ in your FC account (just make sure you have the toolbar installed and verify it is registering your cash back before you purchase - if not, re-install the toolbar and then you should be good to go).

For me gift cards are easier because I don't have the time to really go out and buy the gifts I want for everyone. But for my kiddos I go out early and get their gifts.

I think Gift cards are great for those who live far away and for most teens. Or even younger. I would have no idea of what to buy my nieces and nephews. So it is gift cards. Some in my family prefer homemade gifts like candies and cookies. I have to get busy.

That's probably the most sensible thing to get any family member especially if you have no clue what they want they can get what they want with the gift card them self. It also kills any arguments or complaints if you got them the wrong thing for whatever reason it maybe
