Opening Gifts
« on: December 23, 2014, 09:33:19 pm »
When do you open your Christmas gifts? On Christmas Eve? Christmas Day? Or another time?  All my life my family and I have opened gifts on Christmas Eve.  But this year my Mom is in the nursing home so it will be more convenient to bring her home Christmas Day for dinner and then open the gifts in the afternoon.  I'm just thankful that my Mom is still with us and able to enjoy the holidays with all of us.

Our tradition has always been order Pizza and open presents on Christmas Eve, and then spend Christmas Day eating Christmas Dinner and being with family.

When I lived at home we always opened presents Christmas Day.  When I married we opened Christmas Day, and now my girls are gone, and we all still open Christmas day.

I grew up opening them on Christmas day.  With my kids, I let them open one gift on Christmas Eve after dinner and then when they were in bed, we put all the rest of the gifts under the tree for morning.

we usually would open gifts Christmas Day when we were children.
our family is spread out now and my sisters each have their own family traditions. they each have grown children too. there are five of us  family here in the city I live in. we have close friends across the street who are like family.

I had the chance to go live in Poland years ago. they have a tradition of celebrating Christmas Eve, exchanging presents then. The next day was spent eating leftover cakes; there might have been some beet soup left from the night before. One extra place is set in case someone "drops in" for a spontaneous visit.  I think there is an exchange of oplatki sometime, not whether on Christmas Eve or Day. It is a wafer that is a symbol of friendship.

Now that we're all adults, my family opens presents on Christmas Eve and then spend time together on Christmas Day.  Growing up, we used to get together with extended family on Christmas Eve for presents and to eat dinner and then on Christmas we would do a similar thing, but just with our family.

We usually open on Christmas Day.  We don't go late night mass so we wait until Christmas Day after mass to open presents.

We open ours on Christmas morning.  It is 6 am in California and the rest of my family is asleep.  I'm waiting to open our presents as soon as they get up.

We've always opened them on Christmas Eve. We'd come home from church and then open them. When I was little Christmas Day was always reserved for whatever Santa brought.
