Diabetic
« on: February 23, 2015, 07:05:07 am »
I am having so much trouble keeping my blood sugar under control. It looks like I may have to go on insulin. I am not afraid of the needle as much as I am the cost!

Insulin might be covered by your insurance, check that out.  Check with your doctor, pills might work.  I have a friend who controls hers by diet.  Good luck, let us know how you make out.

I was diagnosed with Diabetes II last year but fortunately mine is still mild. I have been put on meds (a pill that I take once a day). I do not have to test because my diabetes is so mild.  :)  I go back to my doctor in June and he did not even set me up for labs. My last A1C was 6.6.

I am, of course, watching my diet but I do cheat and I exercise.

I had no idea that diabetes was such a serious disease until I developed it. I knew thst I would have to cut out sugar but I had no idea that carbs was also a problem. I, somewhat, jokingly tell friends that I can eat everything that I hate and nothing that I love.

I wish you luck with your diabetes. It is a terrible thing to have.

I know a little bit about what you speak of. When I was pregnant with my first child I got gestational diabetes and had to take insulin injections for a few months. Of course mine was all covered under Tricare so I didn't need to worry about the cost, but to start with I was concerned about the needle. I needn't have been concerned. You get very used to injecting yourself and if becomes a normal habit.

I was a bit apprehensive about the needle when I was first put on insulin, but I need not have worried about that.  I'm just happy the injections are easier than they were years ago.  My concern is my problems with control.  My endocrinologist keeps upping my dose of insulin.  I have to take a pill and insulin to keep it anywhere near where it should be.  I have so many health problems, it's hard for me to exercise, but I do the best I can.  I walk as much as possible and watch my diet.

Unless your sugar level is very high they usually start with pills I have been taking pills for almost 5 years and have been able to keep it in check with that.
The pills are very inexpensive.
I know it will all work out but regardless of the course of treatment you receive please be honest and upfront with your doctor because they can help find lower cost options for you.
Good luck  :peace:
Be grateful for what you have and you will receive more than you ever expected

If you believe it you can achieve it.

I just recently was told I am diabetic. My doctor sent me to a class that was 3 hours a day for 3 days. I am so glad that I went. I am now understanding how I should be eating and also have began walking with a goal, and I am currently over 10,000 steps a day, which is a big deal for me. My numbers have come down since I am watching my food intake and portion sizes. I have cit the carbs too. It takes time to learn all that you need to but in the end it is so worth it. Good Luck to you!

Hi
I have a degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition, but not working in my field, but I have many friends that are Diabetic and  can tell you that you can control your Diabetics  by eating good healthy food and not using drugs   aka insulin, unless your sugar numbers are very high, aka your DOC makes you go to drugs ,first and if you improve, then maybe you can use  the food diet.
I currently  work a swing shift, but when I worked the  grave night shift, one of my diabetic friends would have Coke,  PB& j , Welch's fruit snacks  and a twinkie  for lunch and then wonder why her sugar was high!  ;D
