GO FUND ME
« on: May 17, 2015, 05:36:13 am »
Does anyone think that some of these Go fund me requests are getting out of hand?

Way too many of them. Honestly I don't think I have seen one yet that is legitimate enough that I would give to.

Way too many.  I akso think it's too easy to make one up and people will contribute.  My one niece (who is a total mess) listed go fund ne for a pair of boots she wanted!  Instead of working (never has) for them thought people would pay for them for her!

Its gotten out of hand. But if you look there are so many sites and it is hard to know who really needs help.

That's really hard to say. The only funding program I know of that is legitimate is Kickstarter. All others I would not know.

My grandson used it when his brother, Brad,  died and that was legitimate.  After funeral expenses, the balance went to Brad's little 4 year old girl for her education.

I am not a big fan of people asking strangers for money.

I thing so, unless you are family or a close friend I don't think you should be asking for anything.  And some of those are so not legit, are you really going touse the money for what you are saying.  I do not give money to anyone.

I like the GoFundMe model for things like, extended family wanting to help with other family members from a distance. Kids go to college, someone gets hurt, it's nice to have the kind of open family support you can get from those things. And you can see how much people need... But I mean they have entire categories of things like "help pay for our dream 20,000 wedding vacation."

Really?

I do agree that some of the Go Fund Me requests are ridiculous but some are really needing help and it's up to the individual to decide which ones to help or not.  No one is being forced to donate.  In our case all of the donations were by family or friends and it beat the heck out of a bunch of flowers.

I think it is a good thing if it is a legitimate reason but I definitely think that there are people taking advantage of it.  It has pretty much become a running joke around my household that if we need/want money for something we will just start a go fund me account lol....the one for the mortgage I seen really got me.  I wish someone would pay my mortgage :)  Please...any takers?
