Meteorite Shower
« on: August 12, 2015, 12:15:21 pm »
There is suppose to be a very visible meteorite shower tonight.  It is suppose to be the brightest around midnight in my area.  I'm going to try to remember to set the alarm so I can get up to see it.
Have a wonderful day!

I'm excited about this event.  Hopefully we'll be able to see some great showers.  Here's hoping!

I went out about 11:30 and waited until after midnight and saw nothing but the normal stars.

We went out a few times (around midnight and 3 am) and didn't see anything. Probably because we live in the city and it's hard to see stars at all.

Gee, I wish I read this yesterday.  Though you didn't say where you are.  Maybe I'll remember to go outside tonight.  They usually last a few nights.  What's this one called?  I know the Leonids are close to winter.   :star: :star: :star:

In the city we have had a marine layer, so could not see.  I have some friends that drove about an hour out of town and said it was really neat.  :star: :moon: :star:

Yes, this meteor shower happens every August, I believe it is the Perseids Meteor Shower. When I was a kid, my mom and me and my sisters would lay out blankets on the back deck, and we would just lay on them for hours and watch the sky. It was so amazing, and is probably the reason why I'm such an astronomy fan today!

We forgot all about it and just went on to bed at our usual time.  We probably wouldn't have been able to see much anyway since there are so many trees in our neighborhood.  We did drive up to the local grade school back in March of 1998 so our youngest daughter could see the Hale-Bopp comet.  That was pretty impressive.
