The Media and Headlines
« on: November 29, 2015, 12:03:46 pm »
It seems like the media is getting worse at misleading headlines.  People get all hostile and stirred up just by reading the headline.  Then if you actually READ the entire article what you actually thought to start with is not even close to what you think after reading the story.

Of course it is not secret the media likes to keep things stirred up and loves to turn large groups of people against others.

OMG, this is so true.

It seems they are always trying to pit people against people.  It is a form of control, if the fighting is amongst the people they can't unite & demand real change.

I know how a lot of people may feel about this, but I've been staying away from the news. I used to keep up with it every day, but I've got so much going on, it's hard enough sometimes to just put one foot in front of the other! I do know what you mean, though. That's a little bit of a pet peeve.

FREEDOM OF THE PRESS!! I think The media does that on purpose because some people like to hear about bad news. Good news don't sell. bad news does.

an old saying from when papers were just starting is that headlines sell the paper.  most people are not going to pick up a paper with a headline that reads today everything was perfect no incidents but if you head line reads hundreds starve etc.  wow that catches your attention sad but true.

I think the media stirs up lots of problems, and they hype things over and over, when they know that they are is not true.  when they admit they made mistaken they try to put it off on someone else.  "Unnamed Sources" tell them all kinds of stories.

I think that the media is absolutely ridiculous and I am forced to review news for forty five minutes every morning as a job requirement. Most of the news appears to just be rehashed garbage or geared towards inciting hatred. It is so sad because a large part of the population does not have the ability to sort out much of the trash spewed by today's journalists. Sensationalism sells. Playing the race card gets media empires to pint A quicker. Some of the sites that I review give four sentences related to the headline and then you are forced to watch an advertisement or, worse yet, get sabotaged by their spyware. I use a disposable computer for point to click sites and an alias for search engines on my disposable computer.

Let me be more specific.  I am talking about stories on Yahoo.  There was a headline that said "Major Toy Store Closing"  And in the snip under that it said that Toys R Us will be closing it's doors.
I know several stores have closed because of slumping sales.  But when you click the article the ONE store in NY is closing ONLY because their  lease is up but they are in the process of looking for another location.  So basically the store is moving not closing.

Or a headline will say WHITE COP KILLS BLACK TEEN.  People are already ready to riot before they read the store and the teen was 19 (an adult) and he had already shot the cop 3 times and the cop was protecting himself.  I rarely WATCH the news.  I do read the headlines and stories on Yahoo.  I like to know what is going on in the world around me.  The news may be depressing but there are things going on that you need to know about.

Tresbn00--Not sure what your job is but I have thought about contacting several news sources and asking for a job as a proof reader.  Smh.  It amazes me at big news stations that put out articles that are full of misspelled words, bad and wrong grammar, misuse of words ie their, there, they're  or using the same word word twice in a row and not catching it.  Grrr that drives me crazy.  lol

I know exactly what you mean,  there was an headline on Yahoo Betty White gone, click on it an ad for wrinkle remover, Betty White's wrinkles gone!  I hate things like that.  And as far as spelling, I'm not an expect in spelling, but honestly doesn't anyone check spelling words before they publish the article?
