Overly offended world!
« on: December 16, 2015, 05:41:01 pm »
I know if someone said Happy Hanukkah I would not be offended~I would say, Oh, you must be Jewish~I'm a Christian. Why would ANYONE get offended by someone saying Merry Christmas? It is a happy, warm, pleasant, kind greeting! People are so incredibly self absorbed these days~what do you think?

Agree!  The problem is that some people have nothing better to do with their time except find things to complain about.  Whiners of the World UNITE!.. and please, go jump off a cliff, LOL!

There's usually some stranger's emotional toes that get stepped on by an offhand remark.

I would not even say that.  Why would you say "oh you must be Jewish".?  I agree people are stupid with the being offended.  Most businesses do not want to publicly affiliate with any specific religion because it is bad for business.  If you openly advertise you are this or this then you loose business from people who do not agree with your stance.   It doesn't matter.  And I don't really care.  It's like the people boycotting Sam's Club because the CEO said she would hire blacks first.
I don't shop at Sam's anyway.  And the only place to shop in my town is Walmart so I cannot boycott them.  Besides the fact that my few dollars wouldn't hurt them any way. lol

I don't usually say anything unless they say it to me first.  Most of the time I just say "you too".  If that offends people then oh well.

I have also heard people say they don't care what their boss says they will say Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays.  If they get fired then they get fired.  Well good for them.  But "I" have to have a job and I am living proof jobs don't grow on trees.  I have a co-worker that says "Happy Holidays".  I don't say that.  I say Merry Christmas if I say anything.  But if someone said Happy Hanukkah to me (which they never have) I wouldn't complain on social media, to their boss, or anyone else trying to get them fired.  It's not that big of a deal.

It's pretty much militant Atheists that are offended by the "Merry Christmas" greeting. They're also the ones trying to get Nativity scenes removed from public squares and so on. I say, if they don't like it, it's tough.

I agree, I think all should be accepted the same. I would be happy someone took the time out to say anything.

All this PC stuff is just too much.  If someone says happy holidays or Merry Christmas why make a big deal, they were just being nice and pleasant not trying to make you upset.  Just smile, nod and go on about your business, don't spend the rest of the day whining about it.  Just try and get along, don't try to make waves over nothing.

The only time I've ever been offended by someone saying Merry Christmas was when it was used as a weapon.

The cashier had said Happy Holidays, as per her managers' instructions.
The customer (male) with gritted teeth and an angry look in his eye, ground out "Merry Christmas."

Whatever you say, if you can't say it with joy, don't say it.

When it is Christmas and some one says happy holidays I just look at them and grin and ask "Oh what holiday is it" and they usually without thinking say it is Christmas and I will tell them well Merry Christmas too you too and walk away. But If it is some one elses holiday I will just say the same too you and have a nice day.

:peace:     Agreed.  I think it is getting to the ridiculous point.  I read today that New Orleans is going to remove some confederate monuments including a statute that has stood for 131 years.  It is so stupid it is really starting to get on my nerves.  Now people are making a big deal of saying Merry Christmas.  Well you know what I don't really care who is offended.

It doesn't take much to offend people now days.  Everyone has a "right" one way or the other.

May I say Merry Christmas to you and yours.  May the joy of the Lord Jesus Christ lead you throughout the new year, also!
Have a wonderful day!
