I don't know if it would have made the difference but perhaps if there had been rangers patrolling the waters, they could have trapped the gator before this tragedy happened?

It is very sad.   There being Gators in Florida is like coffee being hot (and you might get burned).  I don't know why staying out of the water was so hard for the parents.  Who knows what could be lurking in that water besides gators, bacteria etc.  I am sure that super fancy hotel has a lovely pool.

They located his body today and this is a tragic situation.  I visited a gator park and they fed them and that memory came to mind when I heard this news about the little boy.  Praying for the family.

Yes, sadly I heard the breaking news that the little boy's body has been located. Whenever I hear a news story about a small child on the news, I always sit and think for a bit. What would  I have done? Would I even let my 2 year old son be wading in the water, where there are known alligators? I recall when my son was two years old that either my husband or myself would be holding his hand if he were not in the house. In the house we would not be holding his hand, but one of us would be closely watching him. I feel bad for the parents as they will have to live with themselves forever wondering if they did the right thing, letting him paddle in the water.

I think Disney's hotel should decorate  fake alligators, the real alligator should be in a dangerous zone.  It is so scary even to think about it.

This was a completely different incident than the child with the gorilla.  In that story, the parents ALLOWED the child to get into the gorilla area and an endangered animal was killed.

The Alligator story was a tragic and freak accident.  I understand the father fought to save his son and lost the fight.  What an absolute nightmare for this family.
Have a great day!

They did? They just said go ahead and get in gorilla cage? It's more the opposite. These parents allowed their kid to get into water that was off limits.  Both are accidents, but don't kid yourself by only looking at the end result.

I heard about this and it is terrible, there should have been more signage about the danger of getting near the water.

How horrible!  I cannot imagine seeing my child in the jaws of the alligator.  Absolutely nightmarish!  It surprised me that the body was found at all since the gator was out feeding.  Prayers for the family.

Tragic situation that is for sure and although there are signs for no swimming the children were only wading I understood from the news.  I believe Disney is lax in their warnings and education of visitors to their resorts and parks.  They have now recovered the child and what a horrific end to that families vacation.

Another horrible tragedy.  Another time again parents are not paying attention to the signs and just doing as they please.  I can't imagine the fear that 2 year old child felt.  There are no words.
