We are growing one right now. It actually just came up in our flower bed. A lot of years that happens. :pumpkin:

We did when I was a kid on the farm. Now when we have a garden we stay away from those because nobody in the family will ever use them, so no reason to grow them.

I have never grown a pumpkin that I can remember. As a small kid I was in the garden with my Grandma every day planting all sorts of things and participated in the fair with produce. Won for biggest okra; It was so big it was obscene. I did grow watermelons, well it produced one watermelon, but it overtook the entire garden and spilled over into the back yard, even climbing the back steps. She forbid me to grow anymore vine fruit just as I was going to try my hand at grapes. I figure pumpkins would be similar in that they would take over and require a lot of care. Water and turning was a constant chore to keep the watermelon alive and to keep it from bruising or becoming misshapen, let alone rot. So strawberries became my seasonal go-to for small sections of our garden.

I have never tried to grow a pumpkin, but I so want to!!!! I love pumpkins :pumpkin: and have ever since I was a kid. I have great memories going to a pumpkin patch with my family, picking out pumpkins and carving them. I currently make a delicious pumpkin pie from scratch. Every year my family asks me to carve a custom pumpkin, since I have honed in my pumpkin carving skills. My husband is a back to the future fan, so I carved a pumpkin with Doc and Marty and a Delorean time machine last year. If there is anyone who could give any advice on growing pumpkins I would love to read the tips. :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :pumpkin:

Funny story that happened to us. One year, I found a vine growing out of the ground, didn't know what it was. So I picked a leaf and brought it in. My dad thought it was poison ivy. Then he said, go ahead and keep watering it and we will see what grows. When it flowered, I picked one off and brought it in. By then we had 3 vines growing, all with a few flowers. My granma said it was a squash flower!! I was like, what the heck are we growing out there?! So I continued to water it, picked off a few flowers. We ended up with 3 giant pumpkins!! Then my dad wondered if that was where we threw some pumpkin seeds one year. It had been 2 or 3 years since we had carved pumpkins so I was surprised they lasted in the ground that long!! They are not hard to grow, you just have to water them every other day or so, ground near the vine should be moist, but not where the actual pumpkin grows! Same with watermelon, and other types of these plants.

Only thing I grown are small pot flowers from a kit when I was young. My neighbor used to have a garden that had tomato plums. Never seen people growing pumpkins

No, I never tried that only squash on my patio in a bucket.  I don't want to dig up my yard or stoop that low to harvest anything.

Yes I have grown pumpkins before. They grow along the ground like zuchinnis and squash and take up a lot of space. If you water them enough, they can grow very large. It's fun to put them out for Halloween and to make pumpkin pies from them.

I have never attempted to grow a pumpkin, but I've had a lot of success growing Zucchini's and Tomatoes! I live in Idaho so the summers get very hot. These fleshy fruits require a lot of watering (especially when young) and some good compost. In Idaho we get lots of sunlight which is a necessity, and I think the wind is quite useful for fertilization (unless you have bees or lavender plants which attract the bees, which can do the job for you). Pumpkins don't grow upwards, they grow across the ground like a creeper, so you do need lots of space. Good luck!

The biggest one I did grow was 65 lbs and they called it the great one  :present:, It did take a lot of work to grow it, I had the seeds from the pumpkins that grew 300 lbs I took a chance and paid like $5.00 for like three seeds. If you can get them to grow that big wow people pays thousands of dollars for the display. And the champions pumpkins at the shows, their seeds alone are sold for thousands of dollars for 1 seed. They do love the big ones.  :pumpkin:
