Credit Reports
« on: December 22, 2016, 03:46:02 pm »
About 2 weeks ago, I checked my credit reports from all 3 of the credit reporting bureaus. All my accounts look normal, no worries there. But I did notice something a little unusual, and I'm not sure if I should be concerned about it or not. There is an address that I never lived at, and do not recognize. Also, they have my current last name spelled correctly, my former married name, and then another version of my current last name that is missing one letter. I know these are things that don't technically have any effect on my credit, but I don't have any explanation for them, and that bothers me. Is it worth pursuing? Like I said, all my accounts and everything else are fine, so it doesn't seem like anyone is attempting to steal my identity, but I am just wondering why and how those 2 inaccuracies appeared.

Whilst everything appears in order, which is the main thing, I do know that debts are sometimes (or used to be) registered against an "address". Therefore I think you should contact the credit reporting agencies and get that incorrect address taken off your record. Whilst you are contacting them anyway you may as well get the incorrect last name corrected, or deleted from your record. I'm not a financial expert, and my best guess is that nothing suspicious looks likely, but you seem to be a very thorough person (as am I) and if it were my report, I'd get that address removed. If everybody were this vigilant, things would get resolved much earlier than they do.

I would def say that is a reason for concern.  Especially an address you never lived at.  It should tell you what account was opened at that address.  I would contact them and inquire further as to what that is.  Also about the name that is misspelled.

Perwoir, the debt is not registered against an address.  Anytime you get a loan they want your current address so they have a way to find you if you do not repay the money.  The debt is against YOU not your address.  I can have personal loans and live in a house I am renting.  They can have that current address but cannot go after the property owner in any way shape form or fashion.  The address is nothing more than a way to find me if I do not pay.

This may seem foolish but a few years ago I had a hispanic woman who lives in a neighboring county change the name on 3 magazine subscriptions coming to me from my name to her name.  The magazine people said well you called us and told us to do it.  UH NO!  WHY would I do that.  I got it straightened out and changed back to my name, the person who paid for the magazines.  I have no idea why she done it or what the purpose was.  And basically the police told me I had nothing to stand on so if nothing else happens then forget it.  GRRR

The lady who changed the subscription address just wanted to receive that magazine. That's petty theft or a misdemeanor. The company who changed the address via a phone call is at fault.  I can't believe companies still take a caller's word for something instead of asking for some sort of proof because of the various crimes of identity theft today..

I'm not concerned about my credit report information as much as my credit score.  I want my score to reflect the fact that I've paid my bills on time so I can qualify for a loan in the future, if I choose to pursue one.

Have a great day!

You can correct the info on your credit report  and I would keep a close we eye to make sure nothing pops up that isn't yours!

If I were you, I would check with the companies to see if these discrepancies do actually make a difference in your credit score. You could just call the companies and ask how to get them corrected and see if it involves a big hassle to straighten everything out.

Your next step would be to contact the credit reporting bureau to correct the errors on your report.  Print out a copy of the report indicating on the report the problems and send it to them along with your letter stating that there are errors on your report.  They will do some checking and if it's true as to what you reported they will remove them.
